We plan to travel from Zagreb to Venice on 15th August.

We have decided to take the following route:
Zagreb to Villach (18.38 - 22.43)
Villach to Venice (00.03 - 02.50) (we will reserve this bus in advance)

We have a 5 in 15 pass. Will taking this journey count as 2 travel days? We can't afford to lose a day like this as we have our trip planned for traveling 5 times.

Best wishes,

Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

the official rule says:
If the pass holder boards a direct overnight train after 19.00h (7 pm), and the train arrives at its final destination after 04.00h (4 am), it is only necessary to mark the date of arrival on the Travel Calendar. This also covers travel between 19.00h (7 pm) and 24.00h (midnight) on the date of departure, as long as the dates of departure and arrival both fall within the overall period of the pass’ validity. If the pass holder boards an overnight train before 19.00h (7 pm), it is necessary to use two travel days
so I think that your trip would fall under that rule. :)

Hi Flo,

So this trip will only count as one?

We are just confused as the journey begins before 7pm and has the second part of the journey starting at 00.03.

If this counts as 2 travel days then we won't have a day left for our last train journey (Venice to rome)

Thank you

Evelyn

Oh sorry, in that case you will need two travel days. You can either travel Zagreb - Venice during the day or buy a separate ticket for one of the legs (or for Venice - Rome whichever is cheaper).

This is very disappointing. I asked about this in a previous post and was not informed that it would use 2 of our days. We have already started our interrail trip and did not know this would be a problem.

We are thinking now about booking the Bratislava to Budapest train and not using a day as it only €32 and we understand sziget is on and trains may be busy and require reservation.

Do we still need to book a €9 reservation from Villach to Venice or is this necessary? Is the bus likely to be booked out at 00.03 am?

In what previous post?

Bratislava Budapest single should be 16,50 € when bought locally plus seat reservation.

You would officially still need the reservation to Venice but I read and heard accounts about people travellng without.

In June when planning the route I believe we asked questions about this route as it seemed more complicated than others. We were aware of the €9 fee but not of the 2 days travel.

The train Bratislava to Budapest is very reasonably priced. We were most worried that we might have to pay an extra €60-€70 for our extra days travel. Do you know can this be booked online because I can't seem to find it? Other than that can it be booked in any train station previous to the journey? We are in Prague now and would book it in the station here if possible to ensure our seats on that train.

Thank you

IF you mean that ticket for BL-.Bp, then do not wworry, do not fret (as about any young IRer seeems to think she has to do nowadays) just go in Bl to the INTernational=extensive windows and buy the ticket. Again: NO worries about fullness etc-I guess your enow so long on the way to have noted that. So it makes only more trouble for that online thing.
You CAN cut the cost immensely however by booking online for the BUS-regiojet.cz or .sk, the big yellow student agency bus with free Cf too. But it goes from the BUSstation in BL.

OK - sorry for the misunderstanding but I didnt think of reminding you of the two travel days needed back then as the train clearly leaves Zagreb before 19:00. :|

As already said, just buy the Bratislava - Budapest special fare ticket locally at the station in Bratislava. If you want a seat reservation, you can buy it separately in Prague already.

OK sorry about all the mix up. There was just a bit of a panic as we didn't notice this issue.

Now from meeting other travelers we have actually decided to skip Zagreb and use that day for lake bled. It seems pretty straight forward. The journey from Budapest to Lake Bled is the same as if it was Budapest to Zagreb and then hopping on an train to lesce bled.

Then we're going to Venice. On plan.rail.cc it shows lesce bled to Jesenice and then Jesenice to Nova Gorica.

Lesce Bled to Jesenice says 10mins and then a 3 min transfer and Jesenice to Nova Gorica. Will this be possible? Does this mean we have 3 mins to switch trains?

After that I understand that we arrive in nova Gorica and then must get to Gorizia central and from there to Monfalcone to Venice.

Hey, sorry for the late answer I was travelling myself...

The 3min transfer will be possible when trains are on time, however, I recommend to board the train to Nova Gorica at the station of Bled Jezero, located just beside the lake as explained here: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/

From Nova Gorica you can walk to Gorizia Centrale or take a bus that should leave directly in front of the station. Calculate about one hour for the transfer.
