Hello,

Me and my girlfriend are planning to do our first IR trip, we're excited, however there are several questions that we need to get clarified.

Because it's our first time, we want to see as much as we could, nevertheless we know that we need to make some choices, here is our itinerary:

Roma - Napoli - Bari - Dubrovnik - Split - Plitvice lakes - Ljubliana - Budapest - Bratislava - Viena - Cracow - Auschwitz - Praga - Berlin and Amsterdam.

We would like to do this plan in 25days (with a 22 continuous day pass) and we want to know if it is too much places to visit and enjoy with only 25days.
Also like to understand what are the most beautifull places we should spent some more time (we know that it depends and is questionable)
Want to know about the connection between Split to Plitvice lakes there are direct trains? and from Plitivice lakes to Ljubliana, it is possible to do it without passing to Zagreb?

What could be the daily cost with normal meals and cheap hostels?

Please we accept more suggestions and opinions.

Thanks much!
Regards,
Roberto & Ana

Hi,

Can't answer all your questions... but here's an answer to a few of them.

I personally think this should be personally doable with a 22 continues day pass. Plitvice doesn't have any trainstation nearby, but is easily reachable by bus from Zagreb/Split. So from Plitvice to Ljubljana you'll probably have to go via Zagreb... which should not matter that much since Zagreb/Ljubljana is only 1 hour apart :) .

For hostels I would think ~ 15 euro's per night per person.

Hi Roberto&Ana!

It is quite a lot to do for 25 days but should work out. But keep in mind that you will travel a lot. ;)
Also, you can save a bit of money buy getting the 10 travel days in one month pass instead - you can still make all train journeys with it:
Bari - Dubrovnik is by ferry > no travel day needed
Dubrovnik - Plitvice - Zagreb by bus, as explained already. You will have to go through Zagreb.
Krakow - Auschwitz by booked day trip from/to Krakow - all hostels offer excursions to Auschwitz; if you want to go on your own you can also book the train or bus tickets locally.

Some blogs related to your trip:

In eastern Europe, calculate with 15€ for a hostel and 10€ for dinner. If you add another 10€ for extras, you are good to go. :)
Look for hostels at [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]

Thank you! :)

Greetings from Porto,
will be in Lisbon from tomorrow (at Nos Alive)

thank you so much!you´ve helped a lot!!

still remain some doubts, as normal...

1- to go to lakes plitvice (Croacia) from split do we have bus connection?whats the company?where can we find schedules?

2- if we go by train, the train stops directly in the lakes or do we still have to take another transport?

3 - we know that it is subjective, but how much time can take to visit the lakes? we are having issues with good connections to zagreb or ljibliana or if it is worth to sleep in the lakes!!!it´s possible to go from split to the lakes and then to zagreb in the same day, without loose the main interests?

thank you so much again!

1) There are enough buses Split - Plitvice - Zagreb. Look on balkanviator or search for Split autobusni kolodvor to get timings.
2) Train makes no sense as only a handful of trains (if not only the night train) stop there and it is faaar away from the lakes
3) I havent been there, so cant comment on that. I guess you could do Split - Plitvice - Zagreb in one day and see the most important things but of course it would be more relaxed and you could see more if you'd stay one night.
