Hi all,

I am planning with some friends (4-5) to do a interrail trip starting the first week of august. We will be starting from Milan and we will buy the 5 days within 15 days pass, but our trip will last only 10 days.
I have a few questions for you before buying our tickets:
- I read that some trains doesn't require reservation, but also the pass is not valid in your country. Starting from Milan and going to Prague we need to change in Verona and Munich. Do we need to buy a regular italian train ticket for the section Milan-Verona?
- In the trains that say that the reservation is optional, do we risk to not take the train because it's full or we can take it anyway without reserving?
- Is there the possibility to travel at night in the sections Prague-Berlin or Berlin-Amsterdam without running out of travelling days? (Counting that first and last travel already require 2 days)

Thanks in advance :D

Hi!

I hope that soemone can answer your first question in more detail, but your pass is not valid on the Italian part(s) of your journey. It's difficult to say whether a train will be full or not, in general it tends to be more busy in the summer period. If you want to sit together I recommend a reservation (usually a small symbolic amount), otherwise you might have to split.

Unfortunately there's no real good alternative to travel towards the Netherlands over-night. Your only options from Berlin to Amsterdam would be to take the (expensive) CityNightLines: CNL40458 Berlin-Duisburg (23:16 departure), and CNL 418 Duisburg-Amsterdam (09:34 arrival). This will cost you 2 travel days however.

The same counts for the part Prague-Berlin. Since they are rather close to each other, the journey only takes a few hours. Either you go in the evening (18:27 - 23:10) or in the morning (04:27 - 09:00/09:43). Good luck planning your trip.
