Hello!
I've been banging my head around this for I dont know how many hours but I have some questions regarding the reservations for trains. When I look at different sites the fee skyrockets, which leaves me to believe its the ticketprice and just not a seat reservation. Our travelplan is what follows.
Amsterdam-(via brussels)-Luxembourg.
Intercity trains should be the best option here since no reservation is required?
Luxembourg - La Rochelle.
Probably via Paris, so I dunno know what the best option here is. Reservation fees, as far as I can find, seem to be around 30 Euros, which feels kinda high?
La Rochelle - Bordeaux.
Around 9 Euros, now we're talking!
Bordeaux - San Sebastian
18 Euros, a bit high considering the distance, but sure Im crossing a border.. Seems legit?
San Sebastian to Gijon
This is where I need some advice. Cant seem to find any reservation online for RENFE trains and Im reading different kinda advices.. Some say I should book in advance and some say just go there and book once you on the trainstation. Doesnt that seem a lil bit far stretched if its during the high season?
Gijon to Porto
Same applies here as above.
Porto to Lisbon
Same applies here as above.
And oh, we're leaving in about 2 weeks! :D

Hi!
I dont know where you have been looking for reservations but you've probably been shown regular ticket fares.
Reservation overview: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
Amsterdam - Brussels: https://rail.cc/blog/amsterdam-brussels-train/ ; Brussels - Luxembourg simply take the hourly IC services, no reservation required.
Luxembourg - Paris: Direct TGV, reservation probably 6€ (or 9€), buy locally.
Paris - La Rochelle: 9€ or 18€ (depending on date of booking) via [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf/reservation/[/ux]
La Rochelle - Bordeaux: No reservation required when taking the direct trains via Saintes.
Bordeaux - San Sebastian: No reservation required when taking TER (regional trains) services to Hendaye then cross the border on foot or take the Euskotren services across the border to Irun (1€); from Irun either continue by Euskotren for a few €€ or take the Renfe Cercanias suburban trains (free for Interrail).
San Sebastian - Gijon: Either by Renfe long distance services, including at least one change, 6,50€ reservation for each train. Alternatively by Euskotren to Bilbao (a few €€) then by Renfe FEVE trains along the coast to Gijon. Online reservation possible via [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation/[/ux]
Gijon - Porto: Again a bit cumbersome...for reservations the above applies but I would just get them locally.
Porto - Lisbon: Only available locally
We are official partners of interrail.eu - to support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

RE San Seb (anyone over there names it Donostia=thats the basq word for it)-Bilbao- along coast with FEVE (=narrow gauge) will east at least 2 days!!-I've done it reverse in may and its mostly quite a lovely trip, but not if you want speed. Also note that the stations for RENFE and FEVE are apart and sometimes quite a distance. And no one can reserve seats on FEVE, its just a tram-like small train, though it has toilets on the very long rides.
