I want to book a reservation to get from Nice to Barcelona on 21st July 2016.
How do I go about doing this? I want to book it before I go away (20th June) as it's needed for the last day of my interrail ticket (If I can't get it then I'd have to pay for a full price ticket the next day!).

On the rail planner app it says all trains from nice- barcelona have a compulsory reservation? Do you know if I could get reservations for the Nice-Barcelona train in another countries train station?

Hi.
You can travel this route of course for free like Coryza said. Use free regional trains with change in Marseille, Perpignan, Port Bou. Takes about 12 hours. I recommend to travel in two steps.

Like Peter and Coryza said there are of course many trains that do not require a reservation. Use [ux]http://plan.rail.cc/[/ux] and select the no high speed trains option and look for schedules in steps: Nice - Marseille, Marseille - Perpignan, Perpignan - Barcelona via Portbou.

From the train schedule link you sent me I can get a train from Nice-Marseille at 08:58-11:33. Then Marseille to Perpignan at 11:50-15:54. And finally perpignan- Barcelona at 17:11-21:39 (with a change over at Portbou). Does this sound about right? Also, are trains usually on time in France or is it risky that I arrive in Marseille 15 mins before the next train leaves?

However, we are travelling through Berlin. Therefore, if we did decide that we wanted to get a high speed train from Nice-Barcelona, could I definitely book this train at the Berlin station? Could I also book night trains at the berlin station such as Budapest-Split? Thanks again! :D

Yeah this sounds good.

Under normal circumstances the change in Marseille is no problem - if you feel unsafe, try to look for an earlier connection from Nice.

You can get the reservation in Berlin, yes. Budapest - Split is possible too, as long as seats are available and the person at the ticket desk knows what she/he is doing.
