Hello,
I am planning on going on my first solo travel and first interrail this summer. 15 days, 13th of July-28th.
I want to start in Porto, then visit Lisbon and Madrid. After Madrid I have less preferences, I just know I want to be in Split, Croatia before the 25th, preferably around 22rd/23rd.
Being from Norway, I simply found travelling from Oslo to Porto too difficult to plan, so I will fly. Therefore I would like to get the Global pass, with 5 travel days within 15 days travel, because it is cheaper than the one where you can travel as much as you want within the 15 days.
I have found a flight to Porto the 13th, and then I will use my first travel day the 15th of July to go to Lisbon (which means my last travel day is the 30th?...). I have found an Intercity-train that takes about 2h for 26,8€. In Lisbon I want to stay for one night, and take a night train on the 16th at 9.34 pm and arrive in Madrid 8.40 the following day, with a Rente train? (I have found the routes on reaileurope-world.com). In Madrid I want to stay for 2 nights, and then leave on the 19th.
The problem then is that I have already used 2 of my 5 travel days (I will probably fly home from Croatia/Montenegro/etc), and it is far to Split from Madrid. However I do have som days spare, which means I have time to visit some cities. After visiting big cities, beaches would be fine, as well as cheap places.
How far can I get from Madrid in one travel day? I am having a hard time finding a route from Madrid to Split, partly because there are many options due to the long distance and I have a limited amount of travelling days... I would really like to take a night train from Madrid to take use of the 19:00h-rule (because I think I need it...), but I can´t find one...
The reason I want the pass with only 5 travel days is because I don´t think it will be possible to use one outbound travel day from Oslo to Porto, and one home again from Split/Dubrovnik/Sarajevo to Oslo - and I want the trip to be as cheap as possible, in addition to visiting Portugal and Croatia... (preferably)
So I am asking whether my plan is possible - to get from Porto to Croatia in 15 days, vía at least Lisbon and Madrid? Also if the trains I have found are included in the interrail pass, and if so - do I reserve them now?
Thank you in advance, any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi!
I'd recommend to read the information here https://rail.cc/en/first-time-interrail and especially check out all the links there. You will find a full list of night trains, info about reservation prices and a link to our recommended schedule planner [ux]http://plan.rail.cc/[/ux]
If you start from Porto on the 15th of July your pass will expire on the 29th of July (= 15 days). If you need more travel days, I would recommend to go with the 7in1month ticket.
Porto - Lisbon: There are frequent express trains, called either IC or AP, both of which can be used with Interrail but require a seat reservation which is 5€ and can only be bought locally at a station.
Lisbon - Madrid: The night train is the only option to travel between the two cities, reservations are available either locally at a station or online via [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation/[/ux]
Madrid - Split: If you want to travel all the way by train I would see two main routes:
a) Madrid - Barcelona - Lyon - Zürich - night train to Zagreb - Split
b) Madrid - Barcelona - Marseille - Milano - Venice - Ljubljana - Zagreb - Split
With option a) you could get from Madrid to Zürich within one day but would have to leave Madrid very early at about 06:00. Then from Zürich to Split using the night train from Zürich to Zagreb. This way the journey from Madrid to Split would just take two travel days. Personally I would recommend this option however would make an intermediate stop somewhere between Madrid and Zürich, for instance in Lyon.
Option b) I think is not possible using three travel days.
Another alternative would be to go from Madrid to Barcelona, then by ferry to Civitavecchia or Livorno, then across Italy to Ancona then with another ferry to Split. However as the ferries are not included in Interrail this probably will be more expensive than option a) above, even though you will have to pay for some train reservations.
I dont quite understand what you mean with inbound/outbound travel from/to Oslo - I thought you were going to fly?
