Hi there I am planning a trip this summer & wondering if the InterRail ticket is really the best way to go? I am also trying to understand how I go about reserving all these stages, either with or without the InterRail ticket!!
This is the approx Itinerary:
June 27th Marseille - Nice get to Nice by 20.30
Nice - Venice (overnight) - Using the Riviera train
29th Venice - Ljubljana (I have to go via Villach Hbf in Austria so that I get to Ljubljana at a reasonable hour!
July 4th Ljubljana - Split (overnight) via Zagreb
11th July: Split - Venice- (Overnight) via Zagreb
12th July Venice - Marseille (Overnight?) - I think it is best to do this using the Riviera train again to Nice and then a local train from Nice back to Marseille, but still need to confirm this....
So my questions are this: Where can I actually book all of these stages individually if I wanted to? I see timetables that show these journeys but it seems pretty much impossible to actually book them as an individual. (I am currently residing in Ireland, but often in France). If I go to a large train station, can I book all of these journeys ahead of time?
Secondly, given the journey listed above, and that some are on special trains, most are overnight etc...Do you think it is smarter to buy an InterRail or buy the tickets individually? I don’t want to drop €359 on an InterRail ticket to find out I cannot use it on ½ of these stages!! Or that I have to pay a fortune again for the fact that each is an overnighter
Finally, if I do buy an InterRail pass, can I also reserve all of these places ahead of time, and likewise where do I go to make these reservations?
sorry this is quite a lot but any help would be great!!

hi Conor ...
the best way to make your reservations is on a big railway station in France. they can make a reservation for you on all of these trains. but you need your interrail before and with you when making these reservations.
if it is cheaper without interrail: I really don't know as you often won't get the exact prices on rail websites... for international travels you normally have to go to the station.
maybe you can play a little bit on [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] and try out to find fares for the routes you selected...
here on the forum (country topics) you also find fares for special night trains!! :)
I hope this helps a little bit ... and don't plan too much ... better to be free if you meet nice people or places worth to stay longer. :)
have fun,
Peter
