I am going interrailing, flying into athens to begin with. However I can't find any trains that leave Greece. I know there is supposed to be trains from Thessaloniki to Sofia and Belgrade. however whenever I search for these routes on any official website for the rail companies it comes up with an error. Does anyone know if these routes are still running?
I am aware that I can take a ferry to Italy but I'm not really interested in visiting Italy.

Hi!
At what sites have you been looking?
Currently the Thessaloniki - Belgrade night train is suspended, so the only train leaving Greece is the day train to Sofia.

Thanks for the quick response.
Whenever I found the route on a website I would always be redirect to the trainose site which doesn't recognize the route. Is this not the the company that runs the train to Sofia? Just needed confirmation that the train is actually still running. Is it possible to reserve a space in advance or do I just turn up on the day?

The train runs as indicated in the linked blog post. Direct link to TRAINOSE: http://www.trainose.gr/en/passenger-activity/international-services/international-railway-services/
Seat reservation (1€) is compulsory, reservations are available locally at Thessaloniki station. In my experience, conductors do not bother though. Also, reservations are apparently available only the day before and on departure day, at least in my experience.
