Hey, first time traveler with a quick question about the interrail 7pm rule.

If I choose a route that is non-direct starting after 7PM, does the rule still apply once the last change is before midnight? Or does the fact that the route is not direct in the first place disqualify you from utilising the 7pm rule?

Thanks, appreciate the wisdom :)

Hi!

No, the rule doesnt apply then. What route are you looking at?

We are official partners of interrail.eu - to support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

We'd actually planned out our whole trip, so it's a lot more than just one. That's important information though, thank you. We'll try to augment our route for direct trains this evening.

We're going from Paris -> Amsterdam -> Prague -> Budapest -> Milan -> Cannes -> Roscoff

Trying to travel at night after we've exhausted our stay in each location. Any recommendations?

Thank you :)

Paris - Amsterdam: No night train
Amsterdam - Prague: No direct night train; you could use the night train Cologne - Prague though.
Prague - Budapest: Direct night train available
Budapest - Milan: No direct night train; I'd recommend taking the night train to Zurich, then either head directly to Milan via the Gotthard line (via Arth-Goldau - Chiasso) or get off the night train at Sargans and travel via the Bernina line: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
Milan - Cannes: No night train
Cannes - Roscoff: Night train from Cannes to Paris, then continue to Roscoff.

Trying to figure out Cologne to Prague direct night, but the interrail timetable only shows us journeys with changes. Should I be looking at a specific company instead of using the route finder on interrail.eu?

I dont know for what date you are looking, but this is the Cologne - Prague night train:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/cologne-prague-cnl40447/420
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/cologne-prague-ic-61447/478
Note that the night train consists of two parts: The CNL part (above link) conveys couchette and sleeper accomodation with compulsory reservation, the IC part (link below) coveys regular seats, reservation recommended.

Personally I use [ux]http://plan.rail.cc/[/ux] which uses data provided by DB (German Railways).
Once again I'd like to remind to buy your tickets via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - we are official partners of interrail.eu and by buying through this link you support our work at no extra costs for you. Thank you. :)

Hi!

No, there is no direct night train between Amsterdam and Berlin. You could only go from Amsterdam to Düsseldorf or Cologne and take a night train from there. However, it arrives very early in Berlin and since you have to change trains in Düsseldorf or Cologne you cant use the 1900-rule for night trains.

Hey Flo,

Me again. Don't know if you'll see this but, basically we'll be trying to get from Milan to Cannes on the 23rd of June 2016. We want to avoid taking the Thello and adding an additional 34 euro to our travel costs, but any time I search for a route on the interrail website I cannot seem to find an alternative train to take other than the EC.

https://rail.cc/en/interrail/milan-to-nice

The train connections here aren't available to view on the interrail website under plan your section, so how exactly would we go about finding more information on the trains to take in this route? I tried looking up InterCity from Trenitalia, but every I search the dates it only returns Thello results. Any tips?

23 June is after the minor timetable change in mid-june so this would be an option that works on a Thursday in May:

Milano Centrale 0910 - 1310 Ventimiglia
Ventimiglia 1407 - 1545 Cannes

You'll find it for example with [ux]http://plan.rail.cc/[/ux] :)
