Hi there!
I plan to book a sleeper compartment on this night train in July 2016. Is it possible to book a normal ticket not using the interrail pass to take me through the first few stops until after 7pm, and then have a sleeper compartment booked using my pass from one of the later stops so I will only use up one day of travel?

Also, do i have to be in Hungary to book this train or can it be done anywhere else?

Thanks

Hi!

This is no problem, however you have to be careful and buy a ticket at the international fare from Budapest to Szekesfehervar.
In Hungary, there are two regular fares: One for domestic, one for international travel. You cannot use domestic tickets for international travel, so if you are combining Interrail using the 1900 rule from Szekesfehervar plus a ticket Budapest - Szekesfehervar, this ticket has to be an international ticket.

Both ticket and reservation are also available at railway stations in other countries, however as this is a rather special train it might not work out at the first try - depends on the knowledge and motivation of the clerk at the station (speaking from experience...).
Unfortunately, online booking is not possible.

If you have to buy ticket+reservation in Budapest, I'd recommend heading to Deli or Nyugati stations, because the international ticket counters at Keleti station are always crowded, especially during the summer.

Thank you! :)
