Hi; I'm completely new here and still have a lot to learn.
My first question is about InterRail travel:
Let's assume I have a Global Flexi pass and on one specific travel day I travel from A via B to C, but my InterRail pass is not valid on the section from B to C, e.g. I travel from Basel via Visp to Zermatt, but I can't use my pass between Visp and Zermatt 'cos I'm too old :(
So what do I enter in the travel diary: A to B (i.e. Basel to Visp) or A to C (i.e. Basel to Zermatt)?

Hi!

You have to enter all trips, including changes, so you would have to enter Basel - Visp and Visp - Zermatt as separate entries in the travel report.
Personally, I write down all trips I make during a trip, regardless whether Interrail is valid on a particular trip or not.
In case that you would get a discount on a certain railway (as MGB grants for Youth Pass Interrail holders), you have to write that trip down in the travel report.

We are official partners of interrail.eu - to support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Thanks for the super-fast reply!!!! :)

Since English is my first language, and German my second, I'll probably pop up in both the EN and the DE forums from time to time.

Ah, now I see! ;)

In case you want to visit Switzerland only, the One Country Pass Switzerland is a very good offer, however with the limitation that it is valid only on the major railways in Switzerland. If you are planning on travelling on small private railway lines too, the Swiss Travel System offer might be better suited: https://rail.shop/swisstravelpass/

Also, you should have a look at the Sparpreis Europa of Deutsche Bahn - book via our affiliate link [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
This offer allows you to visit Zermatt, St Moritz, Tirano and many other destinations starting from Germany at very good fares. Just ask if you need assistance with booking and finding good fares.

Flo, I do not understand why you should enter all trains, also them where you do not use Interrail.
I would be afraid of being accused of cheating by number of travel days on a flexi...

If you e.g. would travel from Brasov to Budapest by noghttrain, you could use IC406, but bad luch it departs 18:43, so you need two traveldays. Well of course not, only if you are a newbie. It will not take long to see that the train call the station in Sfantu Gheorghe at 19:11 and departs 2 min later at 19:13. So while you a making a booking for a couchette the whole way, you of course buy a local ticket Brasov-Sfantu Gheorghe (I just looked it up, it is 14,50 lei, around 3€), and only write from Sfantu Gheorghe in your pass, so you only have to use one day on your flexi-pass.

If you also write from Brasov on you report, would you not be in problem if you later meet a clever conductor?
Pleae advise!

Hey Kim,

this is just my personal practice that I enter _all_ trips, even those who are not covered by Interrail. Never had any problems, but you are right, a picky conductor might say something. However, on all my Interrail trips the travel report was checked maybe two or three times only. After all, the main purpose is for calculation of travelled kilometres in each country to divide revenue amongst participating railway companies.
In general, I'd consider this a very academic discussion with little real-life impact - as long as you have a valid pass or combination of ticket+pass (in case you'd want to benefit from the 19:00 rule on trains such as the Brasov - Budapest) there wont be any problems.
