Myself and a friend are going interrailing this summer, in late August.
We're hoping to fly to Berlin, head down to Prague, then Vienna, Venice, Rome, Barcelona (Citivecchia - Barcelona ferry), Nice, Paris, UK
I'm looking into taking the Grimaldi ferry for the journey from Italy to Spain and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this company? Their website is pretty useless in terms of FAQs I actually want to know, like do I need a cabin? Will I be okay in a Pullmann Seat? Can I just buy a deck passage ticket (whatever that really is?!) or will we end up cramped up in a freezing cold corner and have 3 hours sleep?
Thanks :D

Hi!
I have never used the Civitavecchia/Livorno - Barcelona Grimalid Lines ferries so I was surprised to see that there are deck passages available on these trips.
Deck passage basically means that you have a ticket just for the crossing but no accomodation whatsoever. You probably will be able to sit in public areas, during the night you may be able to lie somewhere on the floor of find some kind of sofa etc. On the Holyhead - Dublin ferries we used to roll out our mattresses and sleeping bags on the top floor of the staircase where there was enough space for us.
If you book a pullman seat you will get your own seat for the trip which probably can recline a bit.
