Hi,
We are a group of five planning an 11 day trip from Budapest-Pula-Venice-Rome in July 2016.
We have booked our tickets to fly to Budapest from the United Kingdom.
We plan to take the summer night train from Budapest to Pula - I am having a lot of difficulty finding where to book this, if anyone knows the train for the booking company, this would be much appreciated! - from Pula take a coach to Venice, and from Venice take a train to Rome, before flying from Rome back to the UK.
We think doing this in a 11 days is a bit too ambitious, and would rather spend a little bit more time in each place instead of rushing to tick everything off. We are willing to cut to 3 destinations. We haven't booked our flights back to the UK yet so the end destination is still flexible. Do you think this is a good route, have we missed any crucial destinations?
Having looked at the costs, it seems not buying the interrail ticket is more cost effective, as we are only taking 2 trains and one coach by the current plan; is this a good idea? Ideally we want to be sensible with our budget and keep costs down.
This is our first interrail so we would really appreciate some experienced advice. Should we only do 3 destinations? If so where should we cut out? Having looked at flights, We could spend 13 days and end in Venice, but Rome seems like such a lovely destination!
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi!
1) The Budapest - Pula night train has been withdrawn for several years now. In fact, this year, there is no night train running from Budapest to Slovenia at all, as the Budapest - Koper night train has been withdrawn as well.
2) The shortest available Interrail pass is the 5 travel days in 15 days and normally I would recommend to use all 5 travel days. If you visit just two or three destinations you will be better of buying regular (advance fare) tickets.
3) Rome is definitely a place worth visiting, even in peak summer.
4) It'd be simpler for you maybe if you'd go Budapest - Ljubljana (or Lake Bled) during the day, then spend some time there...maybe visit Soca Valley or go to Koper, then by bus towards Izola/Portoroz/Piran, then Venice - Rome.
Of course, you could still go to Pula from Ljubljana, have a look at the blog (German only for now, sorry...): https://rail.cc/blog/de/ljubljana-pula-zug-istrianerbahn/
