It's my first time traveling Europe. Looking to go form Marseille to Venice. Is it best to take a train to Milan and stay the night or push on through to Venice? What's the best way to make the trip? Any train advice?

Hi and welcome on rail.cc
It is not that complicate to travel this route.
One question first: do you travel only this single route in Europe, or do you plan to make a kind of round trip? As there are rail passes available, in your case have a look at Eurail: https://rail.cc/en/eurail
If you only travel this single route (or maybe one, two more), point to point tickets are the best choice.

First travel Marseille to Milan. You have direct trains or connections with change at the border. Details and how to book cheap tickets here: https://rail.cc/blog/marseille-mailand-train/

Next step is from Milan to Venice. You can do this second leg as well on the same day if you like. Tickets available on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] or directly on trenitalia.com website.

Example (depends of course on the date you travel):

Marseille-St-Charles dep 0631 - local TER train
Book at [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf[/ux] from Marseille to Milan.
Or at [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] Marseille to Venice

Nice Ville arr 0908

Nice Ville dep 0920 - TER local train
Ventimiglia (the border station) arr 1009

Ventimiglia dep 1049 - italian IC train

Milano Centrale arr 1450

Milano Centrale dep 1505 - Italian high speed train via booking links Italia above

Venezia Santa Lucia arr 1740

Of course there are a lot other options available. With stops in between, for example Nice in France, ...
Don't miss the nice places in Marseille: https://rail.cc/en/marseille/nice-place/c
And its surrounding cities! :)

Pete :)

Hi!

I already travelled this route in one day, although in reverse. Definitely doable, however I would recommend to make a short stop in Milan to cope for possible delays - 15min time between trains would be too short if you dont know the place and/or if the train coming from Ventimiglia is delayed.
