Me and 2 friends are Interrailing in the summer for 30 days and were wondering if this route is realistic... we know theres lots of countries, we want to see as much as possible.
Amsterdam - Berlin - Krakow- Vienna- Bratislava- Budapest - Belgrade- Sarajevo- Zagreb- Ljubljana- Munich- Frankfurt- Bern- Amsterdam
We can cut Amsterdam out the 30 days as getting ferry back home to UK from there.
Is this route realistic? If not can anybody suggest cities to cut out and ones to prioritise,
Thanks

Also if anybody could recommend which night trains to use on this route to save time that would be great

Hi!
To plan your night trains have a look at our overview:
https://rail.cc/en/night-train
Amsterdam - Berlin best route is via de Direct IC Berlin https://rail.cc/blog/amsterdam-berlin/
Bern - CNL Basel - Amsterdam is an must.
For all of your trainroutes just plan your route via:

I doubt whether you want to visit Bern or change it for something like Luzern. Bern is nice but isn't as nice as it can get in Switzerland.. On the other hand you are visiting most of the capitals..
Driving between Munich - Frankfurt - Bern is a bit strange, and not really nighttrain worth it. (Since Basel/Frankfurt/Amsterdam and Munich/Frankfurt/Amsterdam is just halfway)
Have fun planning!

Hi!
Your route is fine - 14 cities in one month is doable. In Bratislava, Frankfurt and Bern, one day would be enough, also in Zagreb and Ljubljana you dont necessarily have to stay two nights so it will all work out fine.
Personally, I would include Prague and travel Berlin - Prague - night train to Krakow.
From Belgrade to Sarajevo you will have to travel by bus, currently no train service is available.
Dutchflyer ferry: https://rail.cc/blog/from-london-to-amsterdam-with-the-dutchflyer/

Hi , thanks for replies. Yeah we want to go to Prague, I just forgot to write it in :) .
Only buses available to Sarajevo? The interrail app says 21hr train journeys available? I presume this is just meaning buses?

Nah, that's probably by train Belgrade - Zagreb - Sarajevo. Direct buses run frequently in much less time: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/belgrade-to-sarajevo

A shorter bus journey sounds ideal. Where is the best place to look for the bus timetables? And do they need booking before the trip?

@1.the BAS=Beogradski Autobusni Kolodvor/Stanice, the departures board. Beside the train station and much, much larger.
Expect a bus every hour mornings, they end in a Serb suburb of SJ-take teksi into centre, or GRAS bus, if you can find one and discover where to buy tickets (before boarding).
@2.no not really-but it does not hurt to pop in the day before and ask/enquire. At least then you know how many dinaren you will have left to spend-unusable anywehre else. Also: you also must pay for an entry-jeton to get into the BAS on leaving. A kind of departure tax. Often they sell these together with the tix, if not-there will be a kiosk.
