Hey all,

Happy new year to you all and to begin the year good I've been planning my next Interrail tour.
It may looks like a good research but I'm missing out on some places.
Can you help me with finding some hotels in the most northern places? Hotels can be cheap but I prefer a room for my self.
I need to keep my budget of 1600€ in mind.
I wanted to buy an 10 in 31 interrail pass but therefore I have planned 9 of the 10 days. As well as one day that is cheaper than the interrail price (Narvik Gallivare, 23€).
So, for more tips, an extra travel day to get my Interrailpass full and hotels are welcome!

The Itinerary can be found down below.
Have a great day!

Hej Wouter!

IMO that's a rather packed schedule already. But I have been travelling a very similar route in a short time as well so thats ok :D

What comes to mind: I'd make a stop in Kabelvag instead of Svolvaer (you can get the bus to Narvik from there as well) - maybe you could also make both of them.
I'd take the night train from Östersund to Stockholm, this would give you a full day in the city. :)

Hi Wouter

Looks like a nice trip...if the weather is fine that day you could think of spontaneously breaking up the journey from Narvik to Gällivare in Abisko (or any other stop in the area of course, Abisko just being a longer stop on our trip two years ago) for a few hours and then take the later train to Gällivare. The scenery around Abisko is beautiful and absolutely worth it, even if it's only for a few hours. Just as an idea :)

Cheers,
Felix

Hi Wouter
If you have any spare time in the fairly packed itinerary, the side trip from Dombas to Andalsnes is a very worthwhile scenic ride, although this would not fit in very well with your night train plan between Oslo and Trondheim.
Also the side trip from Tronheim to Roros is very interesting if you have time to spare, particularly if you are interested in UNESC World Heritage Sites.
Bergen would also be worth a stop but it would mean retracing your steps a bit. The Flam Railway is always worth a trip if you were going Oslo-Bergen but would take up more time.
Generally I have used night trains to maximise daylight time in the cities but on scenic routes this may not always be the best idea.
But you cannot do everything!
Cheers
Richard

Looks good, not much to add.
BUT I can give you the missing price from Aalborg to Frederikshavn. You will have to buy a local ticket, even if you use the national operator DSB, because booth stations are within the same region.
There is 10 zones, and a ordinary ticket will cost 100 DKK, aprox 13,50 €
If you do have a Dansih travelcard (Rejsekort) you may get it for aprox 55 DKK at that time of the day...

Kind regards

Thanks for all your replies, ich danke Ihnen allen! ;)

@Kim, Thanks! I just wasn't able to find a price for this route. I just forgot about the zone-system in Denmark, since I've been there a long time ago. Many thanks!

@Richard, Thanks! I've been searching indeed a lot of scenic routes but forgot about the first two side trips. Although I think it won't fit in this first planning, it looks so interesting. I personalty love the day trips just seeing the landscape passing by so I only planned the Oslo - Trondheim night train in here.

@Felix, Thanks! I will definitely will take that advise! I asked a friend of mine who apparently stopped there as well, definitely worth it.

@Flow, Thanks! Is it reliable to get the change between the long Inlandsbana and the nighttrain (20.49-22:29)? It will be a really long day and an even shorter night...

Hey! I updated a lot. A lot has been changed, and most of the hotels are booked already.
Most striking parts that have been changed:
- The night boat Fredriskhavn - Oslo sails only in the winter in the night. So I had to change it to a day trip, witch does add an whole day in Oslo since there was a whole day in Aalborg. Now I need to get myself in one day from the Netherlands towards Fredrikshavn.
- Need to get the nighttrain from NSB fixed. I can't get the ACPrail reserved, only the seat reservation. Yes I know about the whole cabin that needs to be reserved.
- I found some 4 star hotels for a very cheap fare. All hotels are booked via the linked booking.com site [ux]https://rail.shop/bookingcom[/ux]
- I added an overnight in Östersund to make the trip down towards Mora with the inlandsbanan as well. I am able to get to Stockholm on the same day, but I needed to add an extra night in Stockholm since I want to stay there longer.

Nice route.
I'm really surprised by the good hotel rates, especially the Radisson in Bodo seems dirt cheap at 67€! :)

I'm booking my last reservations in these days and was looking over my connections and seat reservations. I've got one of the last beds on the last CNL Hamburg - Zurich... Littlebit to late? :)
What's left:
- Is ACP rail adding a commision from about 4 euro's over every ticket??
I prefer reservations..
- Reservation strickly needed for Mora 14.32 - Borlänge 15.45 15.57 - Stockholm 18.16?
- What was the best way to reserve for the ICE-TD Köbenhavn - Hamburg? Via bahn.de isn't possible since its international...
- As seen in last screenshots, my first day is a littlebit packed.. Some help with a better connection? Apeldoorn - Osnabrück - Hamburg - ??? - Fredrikshavn st
The IC Berlin from 8.03 is sadly the first train leaving from here, and I need somewhere to get a quick dinner in between traveling :)

Thanks!

It should be possible via DB on the phone (+49 180 6 996633). Pay with credit card, pick up the reservation on a DB ticket machine (should be possible on your route).

Bernhard

I dont know the exact amount, but ACP is adding a small fee on all tickets, yes.

Mora - Stockholm is an IC, no reservation required.

Cant think of another route Apeldoorn - Fredrikshavn though...I mean you could change in Fredericia instead of Aalborg giving your 34min instead of 22min but I guess that's about it.

Here it is, I've ordered almost all of my tickets in the last weeks.

I've had some bad experiances with ACPrail sadly, had some tickets in my bucket, delited them in the last view but I wasn't paying attention so I paid for all the tickets... Got them as well, but won't need them, as well as some Aisle what's not the best. Will call to Nsb shortly, they could help me out with this I beleave.

Doesn't matter, I'm ready to depart :)

Sweet - looks good. :)

I hope you can sort everything out with ACP - I think they also appreciate direct input so maybe contact them too (not only NSB), maybe Peter also can help out with a contact as soon as he is online again.

Hey Wouter.
Nice photo...! :)
Let me know again in detail about the problem and I forward it to ACP, so that they can optimize their shopping system.
Best wishes from sunny Hong Kong, Pete :)

My first day went off pretty well I guess. On the moment I'm traveling in the rather comfort DSB Lyntog towards Frederikshavn. Got about 2 hours of traveling left. Quick update about my packed connection:

Sunday 17-7:
- IC Apeldoorn 8.03 - Osnabruck 10.06 (Berlin)
It was the first train in the morning, so there was some space left, but not that much.
- IC Osnabrück 10.23 - Hamburg 12.13 (Hamburg)
This interchange at Osnabrück was super. Station is simple and enough time. Train was as well just about full. Was happy I bought a seat reservation.
- RE Hamburg 12.43 - Flensburg 14.43 (Flensburg)
What a beautiful station Hamburg is. I had way to less time to spend over there. Luckily I have on my way down some hours interchange over here.
- Flensburg 14.50 - Fredericia 16.10 (Aalburg)
Flensburg is just way smaller than I thought. The connecting train towards Denmark, the 7 minutes change, is always guarantied. We had some construction work and got a delay of 5 minutes. Almost everybody from the 6 length RE had to change to the small 3 car diesel from DSB. A seat reservation is an Must on this connection. Most of the Interrailers had to stand for 2 hours towards Fredericia.
- LYN Fredericia 16.44 - Frederikshavn 20.29 (Frederikshavn)
The station of Fredericia was smaller than thought. Not really friendly looking. This train was quiet, room for my alone and time to type further on my blog and this part.

Sadly I couldn't find a good dinner, so I had eat my bread taken from home (I thought so)
A somewhat long day I've to say..

Hey Wouter, good to hear that the trip went well.
Hamburg is really a nice station - a bit crowded but I always like to stand above the platforms for a while and just watch. :)
