Hello, I'm a 30 year old man from the UK going interrailing for the first time in January. This is my full route, following a flight to the Dutch capital: Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Bratislava - Budapest - Zagreb - Ljubljana - Venice - Zurich. (I'll then be flying back to the UK from Zurich.)
I have read through the forum help and similar threads, but would be grateful for some personal feedback - mainly concerning whether I need to book any of these routes in advance. Would you recommend a sleeper train between Amsterdam and Berlin? etc.
Thanks in advance!
Matthew

Oh, I should add that I'll be flying to Amsterdam on January 6th and flying back from Zurich on January 28th, leaving mostly two nights per city... but will probably just spend one night in Zurich, and three in Prague, Budapest and Ljubljana.

Hi Matthew!
Your route is fairly simple and can be done without any extra reservations; except for the trip from Venice to Zürich where I would recommend to make a reservation for at least one leg of the journey (I'd recommend to get a reservation from Venice to Milan for 10€; then take a local train across the border to Chiasso and continue to Zurich from there - a blog post regarding this route is almost ready to be published). ;)
There is no night train from Amsterdam to Berlin - you could travel to Cologne and take the night train to Prague from there and get off the train early in the morning in Berlin but IMO this is not really worth it.
If you want to travel by night train you could take the one from Prague to Budapest, then travel Budapest - Bratislava - Vienna - Zagreb.

Thank you! :)

Thanks Flo! Milan was originally part of my plan, but I cut it out as it seemed like an expensive city with less to see than others... but I may just make it a shorter visit. :)

Well you dont have to spend any time in Milan, but you will need to change trains there if you want to go from Venice to Zürich. ;)
