Hi,
I'm looking at catching the night train from Stockholm to Abisko on the 19th March 2016 and back on the 23rd March. I just have a few questions please - firstly, how often is this train cancelled due to bad weather/snow this time of year? And secondly, how often does this train run late? On the day I return to Stockholm the train is meant to arrive at around 11am and my bus out to Stockholm Skavsta departs at 3pm... I've had a look on the sj website but I can't find any statistics RE: late or cancelled trains.
I understand that the effect of weather on rail travel is hard to predict, especially this far out, but if there's a good possibly that the train will get cancelled or if they always run really late then I may need to explore other options such as flying into Kiruna instead :)
Thanks in advance for your help!
Sarah.

Hi Sarah,
unfortunately I dont know of any publicly available long-term statistic for delayed/cancelled trains in Sweden. The traffic info of SJ (or similar sites) only show delays for the current day: http://www.sj.se/en/traffic-info/traffic-today.html
The train is supposed to arrive at 1023 in the new schedule; as you already said it is very hard to predict delays but I havent heard any particular bad reports about this train lately.
You could also think about leaving Abisko earlier and changing in Boden to the Lulea - Stockholm - Göteborg night train that normally arrives at around 0630 in Stockholm.

Awesome I might look into that option, seems a bit safer than only leaving 4 hours between my arrival and transfer to the airport.
Thanks heaps for your help!
Sarah :)
