Hi I've used Interail several times before, but I'm new to the forum .

I'm planning to travel from Cologne to Prague around 20th this December by CNL, but then I realize there are no options for the 4 berth couchettes via the Bahn.de website. They only have the 6 berth couchette option.

Is there a problem with the website? Or is it not open for booking yet?

I hope you guys can help! Thank you very much!

Hi!

There will only be 5-bed couchettes available on CNL trains in the new timetable valid from December 13. I assume that the online booking system has not been updated accordingly - you probably will be booked in a 5-bed couchette if you choose the 6-bed option.
Of course the coaches will remain the same with six bunk beds, however only five of them will be sold.

When booking online, please use our affiliate link to DB: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] - thank you! :)

EDIT: I just checked for December 20 and you can book both 6bed and 4bed couchettes.

Thank you very much Flo for the update!! That explains a lot!

So my only option now for a group of 4 adults is to travel in 2 separate 2-beds sleeper?

This would be an option, yes.
Apparently it should/will be also possible to book a whole couchette compartment for a group of four persons but I am not sure that this will be implemented in the online booking system. In that case you might ring up DB or a DB sales agent in the UK to make the booking and then collect the tickets at a ticket machine in Cologne (or send the tickets via post).
I am not really sure if the move for 5-bed couchettes only was a good idea of DB, I've already read a lot of criticism...regarding the use of a couchette cabin as private cabin for four persons it will be interesting to see whether you will need 5 tickets plus five reservations or if there will be a special fare for four persons.

Thank you again Flo! I tried Googling all over for answers, but I can't find anything about the new compartment arrangements.

I think my family will just stick to the 2 bed sleepers then. At least there's more privacy! :D :D

Thanks again!

There has not yet been an official announcement of the changes I guess, that's probably why you didnt find anything. ;)

Two sleeper cabins will be the maximum comfort - you could even book one deluxe (with ensuite shower+wc) plus one economy cabin; there are connecting doors between adjacent cabins so you would have one big suite all for yourself.
In the morning, you can also go to the restaurant car for a proper breakfast.

Travelling in a suite (economy+deluxe cabin) certainly will be great fun; and the Czech restaurant car (which is available from Berlin) serves warm breakfast (although breakfast is also included in the sleeper supplement) - if you go to the restaurant within the territory of the Czech Republic you can benefit from cheaper Happy Hour fares.
