Hello,

We'll be travelling from Prague to Budapest on a night train and since it's August we'd really like to book it in advance, avoiding risks of encounter sold out trains.

I've heard that it is possible to buy reservations for trains departing/arriving from/to German cities on the DB website. I tested it and it works just fine.

The problem is that, for some reason, not only it is necessary the starting point of the train to be in Germany (which it is), but also that my departure respects the same requirement.

To get around the system, my idea is to make a reservation from Berlin to Budapest, but just entering the train in Prague.
Has anyone else tried that before? Do you think it will work?
Or since we'll miss the train, our spots can be allocated to someone else?

Thank you in advance for your help!

BR!

Hi.
You are right: you can book several night trains on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] with starting or arrival station in Germany. We listed details where and how to buy a reservation bellow the train details: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train

To your planed route Prague to Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/prague-budapest-en-477/282
Book directly via Czech Railways. If you buy a reservation Berlin to Budapest, you have to make use of your seat or bed within 15 minutes after departure, otherwise it might be given away to someone else (for example someone entering the train at a later station asking the staff if a free bed left to buy directly in the train). It might work, but no guarantee.
So just follow the link above, scroll down to the blue fields and select the one for Czech railways - there you get your e-reservation to print out at home. :)

And please be fair: buy your official Interrail pass via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] (click right before you order and turn off ad-blockers). railcc is official partner of interrail.eu - and free PLUS profile here on railcc: https://rail.cc/en/plus
Thank you! :)

Pete :)
