Just planning the last 10 days of our interrail trip, we'll be leaving Budapest on the 21st and we'll need to be in Zagreb by the 31st for our flight back home. Just wondering if you guys would say that its worth going Timisoara and Sofia? We'd only be spending a couple of days in each place and its quite a hefty journey to get to them, they do look like really interesting places though!
Alternatively we'd go Budapest-Belgrade-Ljubljana and then into Zagreb via Split/Rijeka. Would love to go to Bosnia/Herz but it just seems so hard to get to on the trains! Is there any way we could incorporate Sarajevo into either of these potential routes? It looks incredible!
Thanks, Ben :)

Hi Ben!
Including Timisoara shouldnt be much of a problem, there are several direct trains from Budapest (3€ reservation). The city itself is certainly worth visiting, so I'd recommend to go there.
To continue to Sofia is a bit more complicated, as the only train on the direct route leaves Timisoara in the middle of the night: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/budapest-sofia-ic73-d481/437
Sofia is certainly interesting too but I am not sure if you should include it - the journey obviously is rather time consuming (especially if you dont want to take the train mentioned above) and if you still want to isit Belgrade, Sarajevo and Croatia afterwards, ten days is not much time.
Anyway, from Sofia to Belgrade you would then have again travel by night train; and if you want to go to Sarajevo you would have to take a bus from Belgrade.
The only international train connection from Sarajevo is the single day train to Zagreb; so if you also want to go to Split, you should again consider the direct bus from Sarajevo.
If you want to skip Sofia, you can travel to Belgrade from Timisoara via Vrsac.
