Hi everyone!

I'm in a very early stage of planning om 10 days in 22 days interrail trip in September, and would like to ask for advice.
I was thinking of: Flying to Portugal (Lisbon and a place to experience nature in Portugal - Parque Nacional de Penada-Gerês maybe? Any advice on this?), Spain (Madrid), Andorra, South of France (Nice) and back to Belgium.
Visiting Berlin for a day on my way home would be great, but that's probably not realistic.

Is this doable with the 10 days travel in 22 days, and on a budget? Or is it too ambitious?
Are there any places you wouldn't recommend for traveling alone as a female?

Thanks in advance:)

Hi.
Yes, this route is possible with the 10 in 22 Interrail pass. :)
If you want to save travel days. have a look at point to point tickets in Portugal, not that expensive: [ux]https://rail.shop/cp[/ux]

Madrid in summer... mmmh... hot hot hot... :)
I would prefer either traveling from Lisbon to the South, from there border crossing by bus to Sevilla ( https://rail.cc/en/interrail/faro-to-seville ).
And from Sevilla up to Barcelona: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/seville-to-barcelona
Or from Lisbon via Porto to Madrid.

Is there a special reason you want to visit Andorra? If so you can either take a direct bus from Barcelona to Andorra - or a train, first from Barcelona to Latour de Carol, then train to L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre and then a bus to Andorra: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/l-hospitalet-pres-l-andorre-to-andorra-la-vella

But as you want to go to Southern France, think about Barcelona to Latour de Carol, then the Little Yellow Train down to Perpignan - have a look here for schedule links and a video documentation: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

Overnight stop in Perpignan... traveling along the French coast. Check this blog posts for nice stops: https://rail.cc/blog/scenic-train-cote-bleue/
And have a look at the Marseille area with its Calangues: https://rail.cc/en/marseille/nice-place/c

Now some travel days left... why not on to Milan. And crossing the Alps to Zurich: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/

Finally a night train to Berlin... or a train to Vienna, from there via Prague to Berlin and home to Belgium.

You see, all is possible - and even without paying a lot of extra reservations. :)

Hi Pete,
Wow, thank you for all the information! This helped me a lot. :)

With your advice, I came up with this idea. (Just an idea, I still have plenty of time;))
Lisbon - Porto - Madrid - Barcelona - Perpignan - Marseille - Nice - Torino - Lugano or Zurich - Berlin - Brussels

Maybe I'll buy a ticket from Lisbon to Porto (only €30), that way I can use a night train from Porto to Madrid? (22:00 - 08:40 so two days, right?)

Any advice on this, or alternatives to travel cheaper (less reservations)?
Lugano seems beautiful, but there is no night train from lugano to berlin... any other ideas?

Thank you!! :)

I can recomment Lucerne as well! But if you are choosing between Lugano or Zurich I would choose Lugano.

Or have a look at this 2 days route trough the Swiss alps!
https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
Make sure you add the Lötschberger (Brig - Kandersteg - Thun - Bern) in this route!

Switzerland is a bit on the high side, but you can find some hostels for sure! Use Hostelworld etc on the right side.
When you are traveling in 2 days trough the Swiss alps you can think about getting in the evening (should be possible) towards Zurich and take the Nighttrain Berlin there.

Hi Wouter,

Thank you for the tip!
Lucerne looks very beautiful as well!

I've been to the swiss alps last year (the Lötschberger), so I'll go for somewhere like Lugano or Lucerne on this interrail trip :)

Thank you!
