Hi all
First time post and first time interrail trip :)
I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on my trip and whether it is realistic.
Planning my trip and currently got the following itinerary.
Travel dates are 19th July - 13th August
I've already booked my flight on the 13th from Rome to back home.
Amsterdam - Brussels - Bruges - Munich - Vienna - Budapest - Slovenia - Italy (7days) - fly from Rome
What are your thoughts?
Is my trip doable? Any thing I should miss off or add on?
I originally wanted to go to Switzerland, Berlin and Kraków. Am I missing out on these places?
Look forward to hearing people's responses and hopefully see you out there!
Joe :)

Hi Joe!
What kind of ticket do you intend to buy? 10in22 or full 22 days?
Your current route would be doable with the 10in22 so this would be my recommendation.
Amsterdam - Brussels: https://rail.cc/blog/train-amsterdam-brussels/
You might consider travelling Amsterdam - Bruges first, then go to Bruxelles and continue from there to Munich; you could also do either Bruges or Bruxelles as a day trip and stay in the respective other city overnight (maybe also include Gent).
Berlin is certainly a very interesting city and many travellers go there - for my personally it is just not that interesting...anyway, if planned carefully it should be no problem to include it in your trip. For instance you could go Munich - night train to Berlin - night train to Budapest - Vienna - Slovenia; however this would of course limit the time available for other places.
Switzerland would also be a very nice addition to your route, although it is currently quite expensive so a quick visit might just do. If you want to go there I would recommend to take the night train from Ljubljana or Bled to Zürich, stay maybe one night and then continue to Italy.
A very nice route across the Alps would be: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
Oh, and Krakow is nice too of course - but there are many more really nice places to discover all over Europe so maybe think about visiting Krakow (as well as Berlin) on another trip?

Thank you Flo!
Really looking forward to it....I may try and squeeze berlin and krakow in.
From your advice, do you think I could do the following in 25 days?
Amsterdam- Bruges - Brussel - Munich - Berlin - Krakow - Budapest - Vienna - Lake Bled - Italy (1 week)

Yeah - this should work. You could think about travelling with night trains Berlin - Vienna - Krakow - Budapest to save some time - the daytime trip Berlin - Krakow takes quite a while. You should then look into the 22 continuous ticket.

Hi Flo
Just re-checking my itinary before I book the tickets :)
I have came to the decision that my itinerary will be
Amsterdam - Berlin - Budapest - Austria (still deciding where) -Slovenia - Venice [tour Italy 10-8 days)]
I was wondering what ticket would be most beneficial for me? I have about 25 days.
Would I require reservations in Italy?
Also is there any easy way of getting from Berlin to Budapest :o ?
Best wishes

Hi Joe.
Depends on your stops in Italy.
The Interrail pass 10 in 22 days looks good for you: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-global-pass
Then add some point to point tickets in Italy. Usually very cheap if you use regional trains. Buy at ticket machines at stations.
Reservations in Italy for high-speed-trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
Berlin to Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/berlin-to-budapest
Direct overnight-train: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/berlin-budapest-en-477/53

The 10in22 probably would be the most convenient solution.
There are direct day trains as well as a night train from Berlin to Budapest - as the night train leaves before 1900 you would need two travel days. If you decide to take this train, I would recommend to leave Berlin early in the morning and make a stop during the day either in Dresden or Prague - then take the night train to Budapest in the evening.
Like I mentioned above, you could also think about including the trip through the Swiss Alps: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
Take the night train from Ljubljana/Bled towards Zürich and then travel the route to Milan as described above.
In Italy, all Frecce high speed trains (Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca) require a 10€ reservation but you can avoid them rather easily (which I would recommend on shorter trips).
The price difference between 5in10 and 10in22 is about 90€ so it _could_ work out a bit cheaper if you'd travel with the 5in10 as far as Slovenia and then do the rest in Italy with locally bought tickets for regional trains which are quite cheap - but that would depend on your route: the longer distances you travel, the more would make the 10in22 sense.
