Some friends and I are travelling for a few weeks around Europe. We are from London and were planning to travel entirely by train. I was wondering if the interrail pass will cover a trip from London to Amsterdam, or is this not included as it is within our country of residence?
I have seen some similar posts, however I'm still not entirely clear if they include outbound and inbound trips, or if we have to buy a ticket out of the country separately from our interrail pass.
Thanks in advance

Hi!
As you are from the UK you do not get any reductions for travelling to an aiport or ferry terminal when you want to leave for Europe, neither do you get a discount on Eurostar services (you are eligible for the standard IR discount on Eurostar though, however it is often cheaper to buy regular advance fare tickets for Eurostar instead).
If you want to go to mainland Europe by ferry, you will need a train ticket to the ferry terminal plus the ferry ticket - sometimes there are combined rail&sail tickets available, for example for the Dutchflyer service from Harwich: https://rail.cc/blog/from-london-to-amsterdam-with-the-dutchflyer/
The other option would be to take a Eurostar service.
If you travel by ferry, you can use your Interrail ticket as soon as you arrive in France (Cherbourg, Calais), Belgium (Zeebrugge) or the Netherlands (Hook of Holland). If you opt for Eurostar I would recommend to start your Interrail pass only when you leave Paris/Bruxelles/Lille.
We are official partners of interrail.eu - to support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Thank you, I like the idea of travelling to Calais first and then using the interrail pass. Off topic, but would an interrail pass cover a night train? Such as Amsterdam to Berlin, non couchette? I am aware we will need to reserve in advance.

Yeah, sure, your Interrail ticket would cover almost all trains in Europe (apart from a number of smaller privately run railways which you are very unlikely going to need if you do the standard city-hopping between capitals and big cities). :)
There is no Amsterdam - Berlin night train. Night train info: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
