Hello there!

Last september I took a tgv train from strasbourg to Paris via lgv-est.
I arrived in strasbourg from basel, 2 minutes before the tgv's departure to Paris, so I had no time to buy the Abo Forfait 2e.

When the controller checked my interrail pass, he said that i had to Pay 20 €, for the seat.
So did I.

I wanna ask why i had to pay so much money onboard.
It really tricks my mind.

Thanks for the info fellas!

Hi!

Abo Forfait is not recommended anymore this year - there are now two different kinds of Interrail reservations for domestic TGV services:
9€: limited availability
18€: unlimited availability as long as there are free seats on the train
Both reservations can also be bought online at [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf/reservation[/ux]

Regarding your trip: TGV have compulsory reservation and you need to have one before you board the train. If you go on the train and dont have a reservation (or ticket, if you dont travel with Interrail) there are two options:
a) Tarif Bord: If you tell the conductor on his first check through the train or rightaway when boarding that you dont have a reservation/ticket, you will have to pay this fare which for Interrail should be 20€ then (back in 2010 I once paid 15€ but this may be more expensive now).
b) Tarif Controle: If you dont tell the conductor and the check you without a ticket you will have to pay this much higher fare which is basically a fine.
If you still have the reservation he sold you cou can check what is written on it - I assume it says tarif bord somewhere.
