hi ...
I suppose you are travelling this way:
Bratislava - Vienna: no reservation/supplement needed
Vienna - Zagreb: it say that a reservation is recommended, but you do NOT need one. depending on the day you travel I would not spent the money for it (except Friday late afternoon/evening) and Sunday late afternoon/evening as there are a lot of travellers).
Zagreb to Split: when travelling with the day train (Pendolino) you do not need a reservation. with the night train there are 2nd class wagons for which reservations are recommended but you do NOT need it !! :)
I hope this will help you... by the way, if you buy a reservation it will be around 3 EUR.

mmmmh.... I don't remember exactly ...
but my experience says: a bed in a 6-be-compartment (couchettes) will be about 10-15 EUR on this route ...
cheaper than a hostel !!!
I think I will do this route in July... let's see... I will post then details !! :)
