I finished school this year and before starting work me and a friend plan to go interrailing for 16 days starting in Budapest and finishing off in Athens. As we are new to interrailing any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We are flying in to Budapest from Portugal/Scotland and flying out of Athens in July/August.

As we are trying to save some money we plan to get night trains whenever we can and stay in reasonably priced hostels. Because I like to be organized, we were hoping to reserve trains in advance and book hostels, is that a good idea or would it be more realistic not to book anything incase we miss a train or get side tracked? Also does anyone recomendation reserving train seats online or at the station?

Is there anywhere anyone would recommend visiting on our route?

thanks :D
