Peter.. I have a friend who wants to join me in my inter rail for a while as well. But he's not travelling as much. The only 'long' journey he's making is from barcelona to milan. I was just wondering if you know what the fare of the train is without a pass or if you know how i can find the fare without an inter rail pass?
Also I was kind of hoping to make this journey using regional trains to save up money.. is there a way that i could find individual prices for regional trains as well? I tried renfe and snfc but somehow manage to get stuck.. either the page doesn't open or the site suddenly stop translating and i don't know what to click... :(
Thanks!! :)

wait wait wait Peter.. I'm half clever after all. I found out the trenhotel website and checked it myself. If i book it well in advance he can get the tourist bed for 70 euros. :) thanks

I can't find this train when I am on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] They only suggest trains with 5-6 changes and a time of 22+ hours!

the train schedules are only available up to 3 months of the date of today.
and the Elipsos train don't run every day... I think 3 times during the week and then on the weekend.
just try an other date. :)

One quick question about the night train from Barcelona to Milan....
Is it possible to book this before getting to Spain? I understand that these trains don't run every day and I would like to get quickly from Barcelona (where I am visiting friends) to Milan on the day that my pass starts- Tues 04/08/2009. If I'm not able to reserve a seat on this train and then there's nothing left then it will delay my plans quite a bit. How likely is there to be spaces left if I reserve on the Saturday before (01/08/2009)? I'm not really fussed whether I get a normal seat, reclining seat or couchette.
Thanks :P Jess.

hi Jess ...
if you want to use the InterRail discounted prices, your pass has already to start on the day you leave by night train in Barcelona - the rule for night trains after 1900 is not valid on the first day: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
as earlier, as better ... maybe you can book by phone via their website the InterRail discounted fares.

Hi Peter- thanks...
I didn't explain myself very well below... :) my interrail pass will start on the Saturday but I will not be doing much travelling as I am staying with friends in Barcelona until the the 04/08/2009. Do you think it is better to book before going than when in Barcelona? Will it be more expensive to book from the UK?
Thanks again.. Jess :P

hi,
i was wondering which website i should use in order to get the prices shown above, i can't find anywhere showing for less than €80, even for just a seat. or is it worth just turning up when we arrive and buying it at the station??
having never done these trains before is it really worth paying extra for a bed, considering we're on a budget?
thanks very much for any help

you cant book the interrail suppliment only online anywhere (I dont think) Youll get these prices at the station. I prefer having a bed, means im more refreshed for the long days sightseeing ahead, but thats just personal preference.
If you look around the forum you can see there are cheaper ways of doing this by heading by regional trains along the french coast

You dont need reservations for regional trains. A list of trains requiring supplements you can find here:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
The Elipsos is by far the fastest and most comfortable way to go from Barcelona to Milano - if only it wasn't that expenisve! Yikes!
If you want to go by supplement-free trains only calculate with two days!
Direct connection within a single day require three supplements:
Barcelona 0845 - 1322 Montpellier Talgo
Montpellier 1356 - 1735 Genève TGV
Genève 1807 - 2235 Milano Cisalpino
Considering that the three supplements will cost ~30€ together the Elipsos night train begins to sound attractive again: 46€ for the reclining seat but you save two nights at a hostel and you dont have to sit the whole day on the train.

Barcelona by night train.
A seat 46 Euro, saving 2 nights hostel, sounds good.
Can I easily make a reservation once I arrive in Spain, 2 days before the departure?
Is it better to do it at the counter?

I'd recommend doing it as early as possible, try at other stations along the route (Montreux, Nice, Marseille) before you come to Barcelona and the trains is full eventually. ;)
Do it at a counter I dont think there's a way to do it online.

Is there any replacement solution for this Elipsos at 09.11.2010?
Peter

No. There are no other and cheaper night trains.
Option 1: by day trains.
For example crossing the Pyrenees using the Petit Train Jaune: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/
Or/and a stop in Nice:
https://rail.cc/en/train/marseille-to-nice
https://rail.cc/en/train/marseille-to-milan
Option 2: by ferry to Civitavecchia (close to Rome)
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-ferry/spain/es
On both options you have to pay attention and calculate right: the direct night train Elipsos might be expensive (and it isn't worth), but if you want to save travel days, think about it.
Having a trip with a stop in Nice will add you the price for the hostel - as well pay attention as there are several connections with supplements.

And if you stay overnight in Nice, have a look at the both Villa Saint Exupery hostels which I can recommend.

Hi,
unfortunately you cannot make online reservations for InterRail for the Elipsos trains as far as we know. You will have to get the reservation directly at a train station along your route. Where do you stop before going to Barcelona?

website of trenitalia permits buy ticket from Barcelona Franca to Milano Centrale (with one change in Torino) for 32 Euro (4 bed compartment).
it's a normal price and any pass is not necessary. of course tickets in this price are available in some advance.

Hi.
Yes. Every 30 minutes.
There are free ones and the ones by Eurostar trains (ICs with 4 digits) for EUR 10: https://rail.cc/en/train/milan-to-venice
Also check the schedule planers: https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route

Hi I´m from Costa Rica and I´m planning a trip from Italy to Spain for next year in January, I really want to travel from Milan to Barcelona in the night train, but I don´t know if it is the best option. So if someone can help me and give me some information about the service I will really appreciate it. :D

Yeah, well it is certainly the best option as it is the only direct train - if you travel during the day you will have to change several times and it will take almost the whole day, so you would need two extra overnight stays in Milano and Barcelona.
Do you only want to travel this route by train or do you have planned a longer trip? If not, a regular ticket for the Elipsos bought well in advance would be your best choice.

hi
We would also like to take the Elipsos Tren Hotel from Milan to Barcelona on around 20 December, and return about a week later. We have searched and searched and found it impossible to find very little information about the timetable or how to book tickets. There is an earlier post saying you can book on the trenitalia website, but the only elipsos night train from Milan to Barceolna that I can find is on 9 December. There is nothing after that date.
Any help would be much appreciated please!

Hi,
on 11th december is the annual timetable change throughout most of Europe - this is why you cannot book the Elipsos yet. It is difficult to predict when this will be possible on the Trenitalia website (they are always quite late compared to other railways) but you could also try on the SNCF website voyages-sncf.com (in case you only want to go Milano - BCN and back an InterRail pass wont pay off).

Can't we buy the ticket online? Or at least make reservation?
I tried in both Elipsos and RENFE but the tickets are all above 100€ without a option to put a interrail discount.
Can someone please help me?
It's really just donne by phone as it's says when we try to shop here at the railcc?
Thanks.
