Hi,
I am going to Europe for 4 weeks in August. I was planning on buying the Interrail 21 day pass and staying in my first and last destination for an extended period of time to make 21 days up to four weeks. So far I plan to fly from Manchester to Rome then go from Rome (or anywhere in Italy) - (Anywhere in Croatia) - Budapest - Prague - Berlin - Hamburg - Amsterdam - Paris - Barcelona - Lisbon. However I'm starting to doubt whether this could realistically be done in four weeks? Do you have any advice about altering plans or suggested routes?

Hi!
If you plan carefully this route should be possible even with a 10in22 pass without any problems.
Rome is a great city so if you find a suitable flight, start there. Then, I would recommend taking the Ancona - Split ferry to get to Croatia. Since train tickets in Italy are quite cheap and the ferry is not covered by a Interrail discount I would recommend to start the validity of your Interrail pass only when you leave Split for Budapest.
Roma - Ancona is just 16,70€ on a regional train; 34€ on a Intercity which is just half an hour faster.

The remainder of the trip will be pretty easy; from Budapest to Amsterdam you can basically just hop on any train you want.
Amsterdam - Paris can be done by fast Thalys train which require a quite expensive reservation or by regular, slower Intercity trains via Antwerp - Lille - Amiens.
To get to Barcelona I suggest taking either the Paris - Latour de Carol or Paris - Portbou night train and continue from there by local trains; alternatively you could of course also take one of the direct TGV but these are more expensive than overnight travel. You may also think of including the Petit Train Jaune: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/
