I am seriously thinking of doing this once:

Oslo (my home town)
Stockholm (and Uppsala)
Mariehamn (and the rest of Åland)
Helsinki
St. Petersburg
Tallinn
Riga
Vilnius
Kaliningrad
Gdansk
Kiel
Copenhagen
Oslo

I have travelled a lot between Oslo and Stockholm and Oslo and Copenhagen and Germany.

Of course I will have to travel a lot by coach/bus and ferry, and not all the countries on my route is part of interrail. So it will be quite expensive. That's why I am unsure of whether I'm going to do it.

Does anyone have any experiences with this route, or parts of it? I am especially thinking about the eastern part of it.

Search/scroll down further-under the country headings. You do not tell nationality-the Russky visum might be a stumble. Also THIS way you need 2 or double entry=double cost. Kaliningrad is not special at all, its mainly visited by ex-people from there now in germany.
IR will not pay off, as its not valid in EE-LV-LT and travel in PL is often cheaper on single/special tickets. BUS will be much more cheap if you book early (try Polskibus or simple/luxexpress.). It need not be very expensive at all, except for IN Scandinavia. If you book early, catch the deals and can stick to the dates, many buses cost just 1-5 eur/ride.For the rest its not any adventurous nor ''firsttime'' romantic-thousands have preceded you (incl me when we EU still had to pay a 50 DEM visa for the Baltics). This thus also means there are extensive www and travelguidebookinfo.
You might consider making a separate citytrip to Peter another time and doing the circle with the ferry Hel-TLN.

Hi!

Interrail indeed makes no sense for this itinerary, but you should be able to get away without paying too much by getting pre booked tickets for some parts of the trip.
Buy the ticket to Stockholm in advance from https:/rail.shop/sj if you want to support railcc or directly from the SJ website.
Stockholm - Uppsala is available for 83 SEK at short notice each way, so no need for pre booking there IMO.
The ferries via Aland to Finland are quite cheap anyway, especially if you travel during the day and do not need a cabin (which would be advisable for going to Aland anyway as the night ferries stop there in the middle of the night).
Turku - Helsinki wont break the bank either, especially if you book in advance.

There should be ferry trips available from both Helsinki and Tallinn to Saint Peterburg including organised trips into town which you could then enter without a visa. This might actually a better solution than getting a multi entry visa and travelling by train Helsinki - Saint Peterburg and by bus onwards to Tallinn.

Travelling through the Baltics is rather easy and will require quite a lot of travelling by bus: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-in-the-baltics-with-train-bus-and-ferry/

Then; from Gdansk you could already get a Europa Spezial ticket of Deutsche Bahn via [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
Anyway, you could also think about getting a domestic ticket at [ux]https://rail.shop/pkpic[/ux] to Szczecin for instance, cross the border with another, locally bought special fare ticket to Berlin and then finally with a domestic saver fare to Kiel. Depending on how far in advance you want to book this might be cheaper.

Kiel - Copenhagen you should again look for a Europa Spezial from [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux], in fact book it until Göteborg and include a stop in Copenhagen, then finally get a Minipris from NSB for the trip back to Oslo.
