Hi Flo :D ,

So this summer I will travel through Europe with 3 friends with the interrail Global Pass (1month). As i can see you have a good experience with travelling in Europe so I wanted to share our route with you and I would like you to give us some tips and idea for our trip.

Itinerary:
-Amsterdam
-Berlin
-Prague
-Vienne
-Budapest
-Split
-Belgrade
-Sofia
-Athenai
-Corfu
-Roma
-Barcelona

What do you think about our route ? Are they good places to visit ? What place can we visit around these towns (such as landscapes or perhaps smaller cities) ?

Salut Guillaume,

overall the route looks good.
Since you will be travelling a month you could add for instance short (day) trips to the following places:

Dresden (on the way from Berlin to Prague; get off the train and put your luggage in a locker at the station, visit the town and leave for Prague later that day).
In Czech Republic you could visit Ceske Budejovice or Plzen (which is also European Capital of Culture 2015) if you are interested in beer...other nice places would be Karlovy Vary (although a bit sleepy), Cesky Krumlov, Kutna Hora, Telc or also Brno.
Maybe you could also add Krakow in Poland or take the overnight train to Kosice in Slovakia and then go hiking in the High Tatra area?

Split is a bit off route...you could however try and get reservations for the direct night train https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/budapest-split-g1204-b15800/132 and then either travel back to Zagreb before going to Belgrade or continue by bus either to Mostar/Sarajevo - Belgrade or along the coast via Dubrovnik to Montenegro (Budva, Kotor) and then by train again to Belgrade.

If you are going to Sofia you should also think about going to Plovdiv; maybe the Black Sea coast (Varna or Burgas) would be interesting too?
Definitely also make at least a short stop in Thessaloniki, great nightlife... :D

On the way to Athens you could then stop at Kalambaka to visit Meteora. :)
This would also have to advantage that you could avoid the direct IC trains Thessaloniki - Athens which are quite expensive for Interrailers (~20€).

If you want to finish in Barcelona...how did you plan to get there? If you want to travel by train you have to calculate at least two full travelling days along the coast; a quicker alternative would be the Civitavecchia - Barcelona ferry: https://rail.cc/en/civitavecchia/ferry/c

Oh and dont forget to use our partner link before booking, thank you:

Thank you very much, those places looks awesome ! :D
I will share this with my buddies and then I will tell you our final route !

For the travel from Rome to Barcelona, we had already decided to take the ferry like you said. But it's expensive, approximatively 80€ with the discount.

I have one more question at moment for you, I want to have your opinion about the time we should stay in these cities : (we have already choose the time for these cities but I want your opinion with it's too much or not enough)

-Berlin (3days)
-Prague(2days)
-Budapest(3days)
-Athens(3days)
-Rome(3days)

Or maybe look at that, I did it for a preview of our trip. This is not definitive (It's July)

Hi.
Please upload graphics directly here to the forum . See information bellow the text field. Thank you! :)
It is just to avoid that external graphics disappear one day.
Pete :)

OK, well yeah, the ferry is not cheap but if you compare it with going along the coast by train you would need at least one intermediate stop, probably more and would need at least two full days...so in the end you save time and dont pay that much more when you go by ferry :)

The amount of time in each city looks good. Never been to Athens though. Personally, I would maybe skip one day in Berlin since I am not too fond of the city, but that may be different for you ;)

Anyway we have to take the ferry because we can't travel by train in our own country! :)

Of course! ...I tend to forget that since being Austrian is pretty convenient when Interrailing :D
