Hi,

I'm very interested with this Interrail card, even if somehow I guess this is not that cheap. I was wondering some things:

_If I buy the interrail, do I have to pay my travel from Lyon to Stockholm (well I think there won't be any direct line btn the two cities), as it starts in France. And else do I also have to pay for the return ticket.

_ In France there are some many fast trains, in Germany and in Sweden too, and this is said that there can be some more fees for faster trains...and also for night trains. So maybe this card will going not to be so interesting, as from Lyon to Stockholm, I'll probably get a night train btn the two cities.

_Does this card work with buses ? I don't know if there are so many trains in Sweden, and I see on your website that there could be some exceptions with some company...so is interrail card worth buying if I'm not sure to have a free train when I plan something.
Plus I did not find some central site to find trains in Sweden, if some people can help find one, that could be great :) !

If someone had this kind of experience (and also knows what place i MUST see there), please answer, even if that doesn't answer directly to my questions.
Every experience is good to share :)

There are loads of trains in Sweden, however there are very few nighttrains between the three major cities (Stockholm, GBG and Malmo). But you can take a nighttrain to the northern parts, that's no problem. The card doesn't work on buses, because they're operated by another company which is not connected to the railways. The railways are property of the state so there's just one company for trains.

If you want to check routes I believe that Deutsche Bahn has the Swedish trains on their site, otherwise just check out SJ.se.

I'll be glad to answer more questions, if you wonder about the cities or something.=)

hi ...

if you only want to travel in Sweden, go there by plane ... it is the cheapest way. use Ryanair.com or Easyjet.com ... not ecological, but cheap and fast...

if you want to travel a bit more than only Sweden, buy a global pass with which you can cross Germany and Denmark. this will be the cheapest solution.
In France you get a 50% discounted ticket to the border... maybe the fastest way is to via Switzerland?!
About supplements... for night-trains it is normal to pay a supplement as for a hostel you have to pay as well ... so trains are often cheaper... in Scandinavia there are night trains around 20 EUR per night in a bed and seats around 5 EUR.
For other night trains crossing Germany (Basel to Copenhagen) have a look here:
https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de
if you have luck you can get this tour for 29 EUR one-way even without InterRail...!
For other European connections, look here:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

and about buses ... like Bohemianism said: buses are not trains ... this are different companies/owners ... so no free travel in buses. except they belong to a rail company - mainly on connections where you can not find a train connection - for example between Northern-Sweden and Finland).

have fun...

hi, thanks for the answer.

The links does not work, could you copy/Paste them to me in a PM ?

Well, about interrail card, I think that it's not so interesting for the whole month, however if I take a global pass only for some 6 or 8 days in the month, that can be interesting.

I saw that trains were cheap in Sweden (Oslo to Stockholm only costs 10 euros) as long as you take your ticket very soon!

now the links work ... I just updated the software and now ... it's perfect. ;)

it is everywhere cheap. in every country when booking trains 3 months in advance. but you are fixed then on a special date. this is okay when you are sure you want to travel then. but if you want to be free and decide every day where to go, InterRail is the best solution. InterRail is not the ticket if you just want to travel from one point to an other point and that's it.

and attention: Global InterRail Passes are one available in these versions: 5 days within 10 days, 10 days within 22 days, 22 days continuous and 1 month continuous.
the InterRail tickets xx travel-days within a month are Single Country Passes !! :)

but maybe this is what I need! I mean if I plan only 5 long travels it would be practical. Am I obliged to buy those one country pass in an other country than Sweden or could I do it there ?

I saw the links but I did not fin any prices, and the travel seems quite complicated. Scandinavian Airlines is quite cheap, I saw a ticket costing 80 euros from Lyon to Oslo. Then I can go down to Sweden and buy the 5 days In one month card.
