I am trying to find a train (or bus) that can take me from Varna, Bulgaria to Bucharest, Romania. I need to travel on Wednesday, May 27th. I prefer departing Varna in the morning and would rather not take longer than eight hours to get there, if possible.
I have visited many sites, including this one, and have not had any luck purchasing tickets online. Some sites indicate there is a train scheduled to travel between those cities on that day, but purchasing a ticket it not an option. Occasionally, a website is not in English or it starts in English and then switches to Bulgarian or Romanian, which I do not understand. I've even been informed that international train tickets cannot be purchased online. You get the idea. :)
Any help you can provide is very much appreciated. As referenced earlier, I am also willing to take a bus... but have had similar problems with five or six websites I've tried.
I never thought it would be so difficult to travel 269 km. :|

Hi Stephen!
Train tickets in the Balkans are rarely available online; in that case you would have to buy a ticket locally. The ticket should be just 18€ when bought locally, although the train trip would be rather long:
Varna 0920 - 1305 Ruse
Ruse 1430 - 1729 Bucuresti
However you are advised to check timings locally!
Did you come across autogari.ro? There I found a few buses running on that route although none that would fit your needs. :os

Yes, I did check the bus website and found the same info as you did. As you suggest, I will probably have to wait until I am in Bulgaria. I am used to buy tickets for everything well in advance... so I sometimes lack patience. :)) Thanks, Stephen

OK. Buying train tickets in advance makes almost no sense in the Balkans - I would only do so for a number of night trains but this also has to be done at a station and is not possible online.
In case you choose to go by train I would be glad to hear from your experiences. :)
