Hey, me and my brother are planning an interrail trip for the whole month august.
We start from Austria (Graz) and want to see Paris-London-Dublin-Amsterdam-Bruges maybe Berlin at the end.

Does anyone have experiences with the ferry to London and Dublin? Should we travel London-Dublin-Amsterdam or Dublin-London-Amsterdam?

Thanks in advance
Dominik

Hi Dominik!

I would probably leave Paris in the morning, going to Calais for the ferry to Dover, then straight to Holyhead for the night ferry to Dublin - it is a long trip (essentially about 20 hours or so), but IMO it is easier to do than to travel Dublin - Amsterdam in one go.
Anyway, you might also want to have a look at the Cherbourg - Rosslare ferry operated by Irish Ferries (30% discount with Interrail) which would take you directly from France to Ireland.

Regarding your overall route - you can still add a number of extra places if you are going for one month.
I would think about a mountain railway in Switzerland https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/ https://rail.cc/blog/lucerne-and-mount-rigi/ some extra stop in France (Lyon https://rail.cc/en/lyon/c , Le Puy en Velay https://rail.cc/en/le-puy-en-velay/c ,...or some place at the Atlantic); also in Ireland and the UK you could add some extra stops - Interrail in these countries is very easy (no reservations required) and good value for money. For instance you could take the night train from London to Cornwall and visit some of the beach resorts there: https://rail.cc/blog/london-penzance-night-riviera/
Also in Benelux it is easy to travel around, most cities are just half an hour to an hour apart and can be visited as a day trip from a base city: Antwerp https://rail.cc/en/antwerp/c , Gent https://rail.cc/en/ghent/c , Bruxelles https://rail.cc/en/brussels/c , Rotterdam https://rail.cc/en/rotterdam/c , Delft https://rail.cc/en/delft/c , Den Haag https://rail.cc/en/the-hague/c ,...

To support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Greetings from Graz ;)

Hi Flo!

Thanks that's a awesome idea! I think it's a good plan to fly to Zürich. Than take this epic railway to Milan :)

Milan - Lyon - Lisses - Paris - Cherbourg Rosslare ferry to Dublin with that 30% discount sounds nice!

Sure we will use the railcc partner link! :D

Liebe Grüße
Dominik :)

OK...Milan - Lyon you should travel through Switzerland again - the TGV on the direct route via Modane a pretty expensive for Interrailers: 30€ for the reservation Milan - Chambery (change for Lyon in Chambery).

If you travel via Switzerland you can use a EC train to Geneve (11€ reservation), then a regional train to Lyon. You could also avoid the EC train by using a regional train to Domodossola (border station), and board an EC train there (no reservation required for domestic journeys in Switzerland) or continue to Brig with another regional train, the IR to Geneve.

Flying to Zürich seems a bit extreme in my eyes - you could easily take the night train to Zürich from Graz. Extra costs (ticket to the border) will be about 35€ in a seated coach; you then can leave the train at Sargans and directly continue to Chur: https://rail.cc/de/interrail-nachtzug/graz-zuerich-en-464/65

What brings you to Lisses?

Thanks for supporting - we can now sell without any extra costs through our partner interrail.eu, just make sure you use our link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] before your purchase! :)

Ah ok, interesting! :)

I just had a look and the closest railway station is Evry-Courcouronnes which is served by RER D. It is about two kilometres away - you can easily make a day trip there from Paris, travel time from Chatelet is about 40 minutes, Interrail is valid.
