Hello

My sister and I are going on a small trip to Germany here in may, but there is just one thing that we don't understand. We are going to travel from Hamburg to Augsburg via the CNL, but when we want to make our reservation we can either choose a economy double or a deluxe double. It seems like you need to buy a first class inter rail-pass to sleep in a deluxe double cabin, is that true, or? Otherwise we will just sleep in a economy double cabin. It's gonna be my sister first night train trip, therefore we spend the extra money.

Another question is; Do you have to own a inter rail pass before being able to make inter rail reservations? So far I can buy my reservation at DB, but I can only buy my inter rail pass two months before (at least thats how it is in Denmark).

Thank you for your time

Hi.
Do you know already your exact route. If you like, post it here - as there might be cheap special fares available on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] - maybe even cheaper than Interrail. As well there are regional offers - for example if you visit several places in Bavaria (Augsburg, Nuremberg, Castle Neuschwanstein, Munich, ...), the DB Bayern Ticket is a nice and cheap option.

Okay, back to your question:
yes, for the deluxe double sleeper (shower and toilet in the compartment) a 1st class Interrail pass is required.
The standard double (only a washing facility in the compartment - shower and toilet on the floor) is possible to reserve with a 2nd class Interrail pass. Read the how to reserve here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/hamburg-munich-cnl40479/30

And yes, it is possible to make an Interrail reservation already before you own an Interrail pass. :)

But usually you should be able to buy an Interrail pass as well three months in advance.

If you like the free information on railcc, please support us and buy your official Interrail pass via the railcc partner links: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you, Peter :)
