Visiting Norway in off-season can be a challenge for people loving light, daylight:
days are rather short. So seeing landscapes and sights needs some more careful planning.
I travelled with my first-ever Interrail-pass for senior people, of cause bought via railcc ( :D ),
from Bergen to Oslo and furtheron to Stockholm, travel dates were november 21 and 24, 2014.
However: the journey with Bergensbanen is beautiful as ever.
I booked the seat via the service telephone of Norwegian Rail, NSB. In English language.
The procedure took a bit long, all in all 15 minutes. You therefore should use one of the cheap phone providers!
The sales agent was very kind and booked a window seat on the nicer side.
Reservation possibly could have been made in Bergen the day before the early morning departure, there was a very kind sales agent in the office. She was one of the few persons who ever had some knowledge about interrail passes.
Ordinary reservation is 60 NOK, a seat in the comfort car slightly more= 90 NOK. This little extra gives you access to free coffee and tea whenever you like and offers a bit more space in seating. You should think about it!
Oslo- Stockholm is less spectacular and should be booked via the Swedish Rail reservation, you can do it online.
Actually the railway line is undergoing improvement. The journey will be shorter soon (4 1/2 hours instead of 6 hours these days). But the railcars will be less old fashioned and a bit narrower ones.
Trains were clean and neat, and on time. Children-friendly and equipment for people with reduced mobilitiy.
Announcements mostly also in English. Clear signalling on the main stations.
