Hey guys! I'm traveling through Finland during a trip to Scandinavia this December. I was going to go up to Lapland and visit Rovaniemi, but that would be on the 20th and I'm not sure of three things.

1. I'm not entirely sure how to get back down to the Stockholm area from there; it's like a cat getting stuck way up in a tree.

2. I found an SJ train that leaves from Rovaniemi on the 20th... which is unusual because all the other transportation seems to vanish after the 13th.

3. I'll have a Eurail pass, so it should work for the SJ train, but I'm not sure how to reserve a seat, if that's even necessary.

Please help!!

Hi!

1) Rovaniemi - Kemi - Bus to Haparanda - Bus to Lulea - (night) train to Stockholm or Rovaniemi - (night) train to Helsinki or Turku - ferry to Stockholm
2) There are no SJ trains in Finland, the train operator is VR. From 14 December there will be a new timetable in most European countries that's why you dont yet see much trains online.
3) No reservation necessary within Finland, however you can make seat reservations at Rovaniemi station in case you decide to go via Turku/Finland. If you want to take the night train from Lulea, you can make an online reservation at sj.se/en or [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]

I hope you purchased your Eurail pass through [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux] to support our work, thank you. :)

Thank you so much!

I saw that bus from Rovaniemi to Haparanda and such, but will it be running at all after the 14th, it's just a different schedule?

Hi.
Use a route like Flow wrote.
Book reservations early as trains and ferries fill up early and fast around Christmas days.
Visit in Rovaniemi the Santa Claus Village: https://rail.cc/en/rovaniemi/santa-claus-village/l184
For accommodation I recommend this place (the one I always stay) - very friendly lady running this hotel/hostel: https://rail.cc/en/rovaniemi/guesthouse-borealis/l692
And finally - also like Flow wrote: please buy your Eurail pass via the railcc affiliate link to support all the free information we offer. Thank you, Peter :)
