Hi guys, well im on my trip and currently in Augsburg... what a lovely place.. we are heading to the Oktoberfest tomorrow. We are catching a train from Munich to Prague on Tuesday spending 3 nights there and then going to head over Krakow. Does anybody have any experience with both these trains?? Any routes I should or shouldnt be taking?? Thanks :) JimboJr.

If possible, I would recommend the two later departures from Munich to Prague, leaving at 1244/1702; these carry a Czech buffet car where you can get Pilsner Urquell on tab and decent food (although it is not made fresh anymore but in a steamer). The two early departures (0455/0901) consist of other rolling stock and only carry a buffet car on parts of the journey in Germany but without proper food. Whichever train you choose I would try to be there well ahead of departure time to get a good seat - I was travelling Plzen - München on one of these trains this summer and it was really packed...a lot of tourists take this route.

Regarding the Praha - Krakow night train, nothing special to mention. Personally, I would probably prefer the night train to Warsaw to be able to sleep a bit longer and then take another train to Krakow and have breakfast in the buffet car there...but this would result in a much later arrival in Krakow at about noon compared to the 0630 arrival of the night train.

Ok thank you we will go with one of the later trains :) does that train require a reservation with interrail for a seat? Also regarding the night train how long a journey is it from Warsaw to Krakow? Could be fun seeing a little bit of Warsaw if enough time. JimboJr :)

No seat reservation requierd for the trains Munich - Prague.

Fastest trains Warsaw - Krakow take a bit more than 3 hours. Reservation required, it is free when made locally at a station in Poland. Lockers/left luggage available in Warsaw - for the centre get off at Centralna station, obviously. :)

Nice! :)
Yeah, the train is a cooperation between Alex (in Germany) and CD (Ceske Drahy, the Czech state railways, in Czech Republic).

Ok so we planned on taking a sleeper to Krakow tomorrow but with us not being organised it has pretty much sold out (had planned on a double cabin). Another idea we fancy is taking a day train half way to Krakow spending a night then travel the day after. Question is does anyone know of any nice places we could stop off on route? Cheers JimboJr :)

Bummer. :|

So...a good option may be Olomouc which is halfwayish between Praha and Krakow; another interesting city would be Brno. There is a number of smaller cities in Czech Republic which are really nice as well: Cesky Krumlov, Telc and Kutna Hora however the first two are a bit off your route and the latter is just about an hour or so from Prague - but have a look, if you need detailed connections I can help you out.
Depending on your time budget you could also have a look at the (night) trains to Slovakia (Banska Bystrica, Kosice, Poprad and the High Tatras) but the connections from Slovakia to Poland are quite bad actually and you would have to travel back via Czech Republic in most cases so I dont know if that is what you are looking for.
You may also look into the night train to Warsaw? Spend the day there and go to Krakow in the evening...
