I need some help planning what trains to take. We want to go from Venice (sept 20) to Zagreb and then from Zagreb to Munich (sept 24) and then go back to Venice (sept 27). We are open to the most cost efficient way (either by buying the tickets or pass purchase)
any help would be appreciated
thank you

Hi!

- Venice to Zagreb: This is a bit complicated as there is no through train.
You can either travel with regional train to Gorizia Centrale; then cross the town on foot and take a train from Nova Gorica to Ljubljana and change there to another train to Zagreb.
Tickets: Venezia - Gorizia locally at the train station or ticket machine; Nova Gorica - Ljubljana locally at the train station; Ljubljana - Zagreb locally at the train station
Alternative is to take a ÖBB Intercity Bus to Villach and change there to a train to Zagreb.
Tickets: Venezia - Villach either locally at the station or book online in advance for cheaper fares at [ux]https://rail.shop/oebb[/ux] or [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] Villach - Zagreb either locally at the station or again online for cheaper advance fares at [ux]https://rail.shop/oebb[/ux]
I would recommend the first option since you will be more flexible at it should be cheaper overall, even when bought at short notice.

- Zagreb to München: There is a number of direct or connecting trains as well as direct buses operated by German Railways DB
Tickets: Book online for cheaper advance fares at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

- München to Venezia: Again, a number of direct or connecting services is available as well as an overnight service.
Tickets: As above, book via [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

A pass almost certainly will be much more expensive.
