Just trying to plan our next trip, thinking about a stop in Croatia preferably so we can visit some coast just wondering what are the best places? We aren't overly fussed on nightlife either.

there are very few raillines to coast-and like most trains, they end thus in bigger towns/ports=Split, Zadar. There are buses and maybe next yr still the govt sponsored boatline all along the coast. Just read (borrow) a guidebook for touristy info. decide if it has to be an Island (seems to be more wishful for many) or not. But for good beaches then alas- Hrvatska has not too many of that.

Okay thanks for that, Just wondering if Solvenia would be a better choice or not?

Hi!
The only city at the coast in Slovenia that is connected to the rail network is the port of Koper which has a nice small old town but nothing more interesting in my opinion. However you can reach other places such as Piran from there by bus.
You could also head to Pula in Croatia and/or visit some of the cities in Istria however this again is only possible by bus since the railway line to Pula runs inland.
What is your overall route?

Hey thanks for the reply :)
Pula looks lovely just had a look! Haven't really got a route as yet. Thinking of maybe starting in Austria as we loved it this year and then working our way down towards solvenia/croatia and/or Hungary.
Just wanted to go and explore different places to this year so up for ideas really.

You might have a look into Montenegro as well - you could then go by train to Split, then buses to Dubrovnik and into Montenegro (Kotor, Budva, Durmitor national park, Skadar lake) and by train again to Belgrade...
