Myself and friends are taking the night train to split this week and wanted to head to either Venice or Milan afterwards, however we're limited on time and wondered if there is a good route to achieve this? I have seen that there is no direct trains or night trains and wondered if someone could suggest a good route? Many thanks!

Hi.
If you want to go by train, you have to turn back to Zagreb, then onwards to Slovenia, border crossing at Gorizia (see blog: https://rail.cc/blog ) and go on by free regional train to Venice. There are also ferries available but not included in Interrail.
