Hi,

I have a eurail pass for Switzerland and I want to do a trip to see the alps (I am currently in Neuchâtel). I have looked at both Jungfraujoch and Rhaetian Rail as options. My questions are these:

1) Can I use my eurail pass on Rhaetian rail?
2) What is the difference between glacier express and Bernina express trains and regular regional trains? Ie do they run along the exact same tracks?
3) How long would it take me to get from Zermatt to St. Moritz and back? And is there a loop/circle trip I could do?
4) Where would be the ideal place to stop along the way? I have limited funds so could only really afford to stay one night in that area, where would I get the best experience?

Plus any other information you think would be relevant!

Thank you!
Gem

Hi Gem,

I hope you bought your Eurail pass through our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux] to support our work and the free support we offer, thank you. Otherwise you should ask the company where you bought your pass. :)

1) Yes (but not on the railways in the Jungfrau area where only a 25% reduction is granted).
2) Glacier Express runs from Zermatt to Chur and St Moritz on the network of MGB and RhB; Bernina Express runs from Chur and St Moritz to Tirano on the network of RhB. Both run on the same lines as the regular regional trains so no need to invest the extra money for the seat reservation on Glacier or Bernina Express.
3) Zermatt - St Moritz is about eight hours; for detailed schedules look here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route Switzerland map.
4) Depends on the route you want to travel; I can recommend the youth hostel in Pontresina directly at the station as well as the hostel at Ospizio Bernina: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/

As you probably know you only get a 25% reduction on the MGB network which means you would have to pay from Zermatt to Disentis/Mustér if you want to travel along the route of Glacier Express.

No worries - just spread the word, thank you. ;)

If you are in doubt about this particular journey, just ask.
