Hi,

On the DBbahn website it does not allow you to reserve a seat without buying a ticket for international train journeys. Is there a way of only reserving a ticket for this leg? ACP allows us to buy the reservation by itself so shall we use them instead?

Thanks

you CAN but do not NEED to-on the direct IC trains, take 6 hrs and this train (I used it some 2 hrs ago still) is often full with riotous and mating/meeting IR-ers. Note that conductors are well aware on this route of many of the usual fraudulant tricks they also try to play.

Will the train not be full up in late july though if I do not book it?

You do not need the reservation. If you want, you can also get one at a station in Germany (4,50€).
Just enter the train at Berlin Ostbahnhof already, most passengers board the train at Hauptbahnhof.
