Just looking for some advice on what to do whilst on long journeys.
Travelling in a pair so will take playing cards and a book.
Any other suggestions are welcome

Talk to strangers. Mostly you'll find other backpackers on the trains or meet interesting people and get some information about their cultures.
Otherwise: Watch movies on Smartphone/tablet/notebook
Start blogging: you can submit your posts in hostels later, if you have no internet connection on board. / or old school diary
Review & Edit Photos if you take a lot & take a notebook with you
Crosswords, sudoku
Listen to music/ audio books
Reading magazines
Mini games on Smartphone
Other mini board games, e.g. chess
enjoy the view
sleep
