Hi! :)
Advices are needed here!

Me and my friend have 15 days interrail tickets, last day is Friday 27.6. We are leaving Venice to Ancona Wednesday 25.6, there take ferry to patras, 26.6 partas-pireas by bus through Athens or train??, patras-heraklion with ferry.

So...
- do we have to book our place at the ferry or is there for sure place for us?
- what is the best route to pireas from patras?

Thank you for any tips!
-Tessa:)

IF you have misplanned and that IR is still valid when arr in Patrai, then use the railways BUS (I think it is included) and change to another train somewhere to Ath, then metro to Peireas, port. once there was a train-before the crisis.
It is much easier and [perhaps] cheaper if you have to pay anyway, to use the direct bus to ATH. Most ferries have some bus waiting at quayside-buy ticket before from desk.
The ferry is also cheaper from IT for shorter routes, like from Bari or Brindisi.

As far as I know it wont be a problem to book the tickets upon arrival at the port in Ancona. It would be nice to hear your experiences though.

From Patras, replacement buses operate to Kiato, from where you can take the train to Athens SKA station and change to Piräus.

Ancona - Patras

From Acona railway station to ferry port is free bus ride, number 20, front of the station.

In harbor there is check in - tickets and ferry terminal at different places. First you stop at the check in and buy tickets (with interrailpass we paid: fuel+taxes+seasonal fee = 35€). Then you go outside wait for the bus number 20 which takes you to the ferry terminal. The ferry was supposed to leave at 3pm but was little late, we arrived to Patras the next day 5.30pm.

Then we arrived to Greece, Patras.

From Patras to Piraeus: we took bus to Athens, about 20€ and 3 hours. From Athens to Piraeus by bus too, 1,20€ and about 20 min.

We stayed one night in Piraeus.

Piraeus - Heraklion

The ferry to Heraklion was about 25€ with interail pass discount. It took off 9pm and arrived next morning 6.30am.

In the ferries you should prepare to have cash, problems with cards.

In both ferries we slept with sleeping bags in the floor, not that bad. Head still swinging and rocking :D

Awsome sunset and sunrise!! :)
