Having difficulty planning this part of my trip.

Wanting to spend around 5 days in Croatia, preferably coastline cities and towns such as Zadar.
However i fear that I will spend too much time travelling back and forth to Zagreb to continue my journey to Ljubljana.

Can anyone suggest a feasible route that links Croatia with Ljubljana and then onto Rome.

Thanks

daft easy: forget that train. Fly in_Out and use the bus-very frequent all along the coast in the old Yugoslavija. there is even still on some days the Jadrolinija coastal boat service, now restricted to Hrvatska_Croatia only. And THE main town to see, DUBrovnik, has not trains since _60 years anyway.

Ljubljana to Venice via Nova Gorica: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/
Then by Frecciargento (10€ reservation) to Rome.

As already said, travelling along the Croatian coast is a bit tricky by train only; there are rather good connections on the Zagreb - Split main line but to Zadar only bus replacement is available from Knin to Zadar - if you want to go to Zadar, you might also look into direct buses from/to Split, Rijeka and Zagreb.

Ok guys thanks for the help.

If possible id like to avoid buses, as they are slow and time is limited.
Might miss out Zadar and go to Split instead if rail links are good.

Anyone know of any little places or activities I should check out whilst in the area?

OK...there are two day and night trains each between Zagreb and Split. Look out for the city of Kastela (suburban trains run from Split to Kastel Stari) as well as Trogir, both close to Split.
You could also look into a day trip to Sibenik, by train via Perkovic.
