Hi guys. wow leaving in just 7 days! the months flew by.
Was just wondering if ye would know rough timings of trains from Florence to Nice on the 9th of July,
and from Nice to Lyon (to Annecy) on the 11th of July. Only part of trip I not sure of anymore.
Also when reserving our train from Amsterdam to Berlin is it possible to reserve it in two sections as we want to get off at Hannover for a few hours and then continue onwards!
How early would I want to reserve that train actually?

Hi!
Exact timings for Italy for the amended timetable from 15 June onwards are not yet available, the following are timings for this wednesday, no significant changes to be expeceted but I will check again if you remind me. ;)
Firenze SMN (main station) 0953 - 1220 La Spezia Centrale
La Spezia Centrale 1254 - 1731 Ventimiglia
Ventimiglia 1750 - 1837 Nice Ville (main station)
This is the best connection in terms of sightseeing (Always take a seat on the left hand side of each train! You will travel long stretches directly at the mediterranean coast.) and price (all regional services, no reservation needed).
Faster connections are available via Milan:
Firenze SMN 0900 - 1040 Milano Centrale
Milano Centrale 1110 - 1504 Ventimiglia
Ventimiglia 1520 - 1608 Nice Ville
Similar connections run every two hours; from Florence to Milan 10€ compulsory reservation, from Milan to Ventimiglia 3€ recommended reservation
Nice Ville 0927 - 1317 Valence TGV
Valence TGV 1326 - 1615 Annecy
Nice - Valence with TGV, 6€ compulsory reservation (limited seats available on TGV!); alternative connection via Lyon (frequent regional trains run from Lyon to Annecy):
Nice Ville 1057 - 1524 Lyon PD
Lyon PD 1600 - 1808 Annecy
Nice - Lyon with TGV.
Nice Ville 0855 - 1129 Marseille St Charles
Marseille St Charles 1306 - 1640 Lyon PD
Lyon PD 1656 - 1907 Annecy
This would be with regional trains only without extra reservations.
There is no need to make seat reservations for your Berlin - Hannover - Amsterdam trip; the ICE and IC trains on that route do not require a reservation. If you would want to get one though, you would need to pay for each leg separately.

Thanks flow :)
A comprehensive answer as always.
Hmmm we will see how the financial situation is going when we reach that stage of the trip to see if I will reserve TGV to go to Annecy :P
Ok I will probably leave amst-Berlin so, chances of 6 of us getting to sit together?

You're welcome :)
Humm...Berlin - Hannover wont be a problem, just enter the train at Ostbahnhof already, where the trains in direction of Hannover and beyond usually start. Hannover - Berlin I cant predict, depends on date and time.
There is only coach with just 2 or 3 compartments in each rake of the Amsterdam - Berlin IC so if you want to sit together in one of these 6 seat compartments you should try to reserve in one of them (usually coach 10, seats 21-26, 31-36 and 101-106 but I think the latter cannot be reserved); all other seats are open plan style with 2+2 seats either in rows or in groups of 4 with a table. I think best chances to get seats together will be if you enter the train at the end where usually not so many people enter the train.
