I want to take the 00:06 Night train from Villach to Rome on the 22nd August. I understand I have to make a reservation - is it possible to make this reservation online or must I do it at a train station?
I've tried your shop for reservations and it wasn't on there. Also some old forum topics on this route but some of the links you posted on those are now dead.
Thanks in advance.

You can get the reservation online at the website of Trenitalia, however you would have to collect in from a ticket machine at an Italian station so you would have to be in Italy beforehand...
If the reservation is not available at rail.shop/acprail/reservation you can only get it at a train station while you are travelling. Anyway it seems that many people are using the train without reservations just sitting on the corridor...not very comfortable but might be an emergency option (you may then have to pay the 9€ supplement even though there are no seats left). But if you go to a station a few days in advance you should still get a seat, no worries.

Thanks for your reply.
Could I make the reservation at any mainland European station, so when I arrive in Paris?

Yup. :)
Might depend on the motivation and ability of the clerk though so you might have to try at several stations...would be interesting in hearing from your experience. ;)

Thanks for your help again, I will make sure I report back.
Though, for someone who is planning this trip to every inch getting this reservation won't be fun. xo
Got two more train journey's to sort and 1 more hotel then I'm fully planned. Expect another post of mine soon. 8)

Thanks... :)
Well, the standard way to make reservations still is to do so at a railway station - online reservations are not yet very common, especially for InterRail travel (obviously it is too complicated to implement into online booking engines and generates too little sales volume for the railway companies...).
Of course, thats as long as you live in a country where the railway company has linked its booking systems to that of the other countries in Europe. :)

Hmm... I've just found I can make a reservation on the Voyages website...
It's £16 for 2 seats or £50 for 2 beds in 6 couchette. Is that about the right price or would it be cheaper to purchase at a station?

Oh well that's interesting! :)
...apparently this is only working on the UK version though, I just checked on the regular voyages-sncf site where I am redirected to from Austria.
Fares for IR passholders when bought at a station in Austria/Italy: 9€ for a seat, 29€ for a berth in a 6bed couchette compartment...so the offered fares are really reasonable. :)

Yep, I've basically just bought all my reservations from there.
May be best for future advice to English travellers that you direct them to that website. Maybe try and get a referrals thing going for yourselves (if the link to that site for passes doesn't also count for seat reservations).

Hi.
Yes, if someone from the UK orders via [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf/reservation[/ux] , it also supports railcc.
Peter :)
