Hi there!

I don't know if this is the correct forum location to ask this question, I'm sorry if it's not.
I tried to figure this out on my own but I just can't find a solution to my problem. So my question is: Is it possible to get from Nice to Barcelona in just one day and still do this route: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/villefranche-de-conflent-to-latour-de-carol ??

Thanks!! :D

Hi.
No, that's not possible. Even using high-speed-trains. I recommend to travel Nice to Perpigan in one step. Stay there overnight. And continue the next morning via The Little Yellow Train to Latour de Catol and Barcelona.
Do you travel with a rail pass? What are your stops before and afterwards?
Peter :)

Going from Nice to barcelona directly takes pretty long (12 hours or so?), we did it last year. We then used the little Yellow Train on our way back to France. We then got onto the nighttrain in Perpignan.

Exactly. That's often the best solution like BMueller wrote: Nice to Barcelona by regional and free trains (for rail pass travellers) - https://rail.cc/en/train/nice-to-barcelona
And on the way back from Spain to France by Little Yellow Train. See also here: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

Yes we are going to buy an IR pass but we are not sure yet about the type of pass.
That would be a good suggestion but we're from Portugal so we wont be back to france after Barcelona :)
About staying overnight in perpignan do you guys have any suggestions about where to spend the night? I searched for hostels but there is little option and it's expensive. Is it safe to stay in the station?
Before getting to nice we're going to Ljubljana-wien-budapest-prague -berlin- zurich -milano-Nice- Barcelona- madrid
About this routes.. the reservations not available in 6your website can be made through dbahn by Phone ?

Hi!

To support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Did you find the FUAJ hostel in Perpignan? I dont know about sleeping at the station but you might travel to Villefranche, the starting point of the Yellow Train and sleep there somewhere in the bushes - friends of mine did that two years ago.
You do not need to make advance reservations for most of your routes; it would be possible via DB but as I said it is not necessary.
Zürich - Milan: I recommend the route across the Alps: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
If you want to travel directly, take any train to Chiasso and change there to a regional train to Milan, that way you do not have to make a reservation (only needed when travelling Zürich - Milano on direct EC train)
Milan - Nice: From Milan to Ventimiglia you can use IC trains on which reservation is not compulsory, but recommended (3€); you can get them directly in Milan from a ticket machine (select Global Pass option).
Barcelona - Madrid: AVE (10€ reservation) recommended, can be bought at any railway station with a ticket counter selling international tickets

Yeah we'll buy the passes through railcc. this website it's amazing and very helpful :)

That hostel seems great, thank you :)
About the reservations, we wanted to do the trips during the night on night trains. So it's not necessary to make reservations in advance for those trains too? Like one or two days before in the station would work?

https://rail.cc/en/interrail/nice-to-barcelona - this route, when compared to the little yellow train, is much worse?

Nice to Barcelona: the route you mention is the best one if you want to avoid extra reservation fees. But only available in the summer: runs only 07 July to 22 August.
Buy some beer and relax and enjoy the travel along the Mediterranean Sea. :)

On your route Ljubljana - Wien - Budapest - Prague - Berlin - Zurich - Milano - Nice - Barcelona - Madrid you can only use a night train on:

Budapest - Prague: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/budapest-prague-en-476/218
Buy reservation during your trip at a station, for example in Vienna.

Berlin - Zurich: you can book the reservation online like explained bellow the map here - https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/berlin-zurich-cnl-471/21

I didn't noticed that that route was only available during that period...this one (https://rail.cc/en/interrail/nice-to-barcelona) is available all year round?
And in your opinion which one is better (more beautiful, etc), I'm having trouble deciding which one to take..sorry for bothering

Just have a look at the overview: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/nice-to-barcelona
Explanation:
The green squares tell you on which weekday a train runs: 1=Monday, 7=Sunday
Bellow the times you see the dates the train runs (in summer only, ...) - if nothing is said it runs every day (see green squares).
Note: please check the schedule again a day before you travel here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Both routes are the same, only the timing is different.
Peter :)
