I'm thinking of taking the City Night Line train from Paris to Berlin.
My question is can I book a 1st class deluxe double cabin for 2 persons with an ordinary interrail ticket? As it appears to be same price as economy double cabin - not sure if it's because I'm booking in advance or because you should have an accompanying 1st class interrail ticket as well?
Want to surprise the Mrs who keeps grumbling at the couchette. :))
Edit: Should add I intend to have a 10in22 interrail pass. My question is do I need a 1st class interrail pass to purchase a deluxe reservation or can I do it on my standard pass?
Edit2: I'm looking through Bahn.de website. When I checked through your pages it said it couldn't find fares! For middle of August btw.

Hi,
no, for use of the Deluxe compartments on CNL trains a 1st class ticket is required. The reservation fares are the same for Economy and Deluxe accomodation, the difference in the comfort level is payed for through the 1st class ticket.
In theory you should be able an upgrade from 2nd to 1st class for this route (price difference of normal fares 2nd/1st class) but you would have to get this at a ticket counter and it might take some time to explain that at a station in Paris...plus it wont be cheap...85,60€ if I am not mistaken
But the Economy Double is quite ok as well, not as spacious as the Deluxe compartments but with comfortable beds; there is also a public shower at the end of the carriage available.

Cheers Flo.
Any idea if they ever do sales on this kind of thing or am I best booking now before they all disappear in a prime summer slot? 180 euros seems a little steep when all you get is a wash basin and rid of strangers in your compartment.
Also a question on couchettes now. Do they pair like and like together? So if I got a 4 bed couchette for us as a couple - would they pair us with another couple or even another two interrail travellers? Or is it feasible to get two grumpy old men?
Thanks again.

Did you use the [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] site?
I can book both regular tickets as well as InterRail reservations through that link, also in the middle of August.
InterRail reservations are always the same price as listed here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/paris-berlin-cnl451-455/18
The more expensive fares are valid in high season from beginning of July through till end of September. So it does not matter if you book now or in a few weeks time...as long as beds are available you can byu them at the same price with an InterRail ticket.
CNL fares are quite steep nowadays, that's true...especially the high season surcharge is quite annoying...ÖBB just abandonded these high season prices and now DB/CNL introduces them, great. But if you want to surprise the Mrs and splurge a little why not go for it...it is quite a long trip and you can sleep long and enjoy the trip, maybe with a bottle of wine? :)
If you book two berths in a 4bed couchette you get a surprise party...there can be grumpy old men, InterRailers, a mother with her child...

Thanks again for your response. I used the following link so perhaps that's where I went wrong on your website;
[ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]
I think I will book the economy double next week when I start putting all the planning into action. I will make sure I go through the link you provided. Thanks for your help.
Edit: You need to update your prices though for the high season, if only I could book that cabin for 90 Euros!

Hi.
Just use the link Flow gave you: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
Follow the information given bellow the map here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/paris-berlin-cnl451-455/18
And you will find the reservation for EUR 90.
You can not book all reservations via [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux] - the reservations is only an extra service to help travellers. We do not earn a cent on these reservations, but service fees may apply - as people printing and sending tickets has to be paid as well.
If you like the information on railcc, buy your Interrail pass by following this link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)
Peter :)

Ah I think I understand you now... do umean 90 EUR per person and not for the cabin?
So 180 Euros for the Double Cabin is the correct price for both of us?
Just want to make sure I don't pay too much.

Yes, reservation prices are always per person. :)
Since you can also travel as a solo traveller in a Double cabin - having to share the cabin with another traveller or being lucky and having it all for your own. ;)
On CNL trains, a bed in a Double sleeper is 75/90€ per person (low/high season).
